So many great novels set in LA: Bukowski, Bret Easton Ellis, Chandler, Inherent Vice (Pynchon), Ask the Dust (Fante), Walter Mosley, Chester Himes, James Ellroy, Get Shorty (Elmore Leonard), The Grifters (Jim Thompson.

You can't forget Raymond Chandler. Also, Ray Bradbury's Death is a Lonely Business---an interesting novel that's not on people's radar.

If you read mysteries, Michael Connelly’s and Robert Crais’ books are set in LA. I think Joseph Wambaugh’s books may also be set in LA. The YA book series: Legend is set in a future LA. I love White Oleander. I will have to check out the others, since I live and work in the neighborhood, I love reading books with LA or Orange County as the setting! Thanks for the recommendations!
