The rainy season used to be from November to May. She said they have had no rain since May, but that is normal until you get to November. They have missed out on rain since November

She is generally right. But each of the conditions is not new. Santa Ana winds have happened for thousands of years. The drought that has been happening in SoCal since May 2024 has been severe but not unprecedented. At the end of the day, city leaders should have been prepared for this, especially after all the excess rainfall from 2023 and 2024 that caused massive growth of brush, which subsequently became fire-prone with the current drought. The facts are that city leaders cut the LAFD budget by $17.5 million. That money should have been used to do control-burns and build breakfires throughout these canyons. It might not result in total mitigation, but it would certainly have mitigated the severity and hundreds of homes could have been spared.
