Thanks for the info. I will continue to purchase lab grown diamonds as they are essentially the same as mined diamonds. However there is not the exploitation of the native miners when purchasing natural diamonds and if to the naked eye they are indistinguishable from natural diamonds, i will be happier knowing that I’m not exploiting anyone to wear lab grown diamonds. I’m sure there are many that feel the same way.

WOW. And so much fun. So, if methane can be transformed to diamond is that a partial solution for too much methane in the atmosphere? (Of course, you still have to capture it....) And a steam bath can relax laboratory diamonds from brown to colorless. (If I understood it) This is all so INTERESTING!!!!! So glad I found your channel. Keep it coming!
@TheGemAcademy2 жыл бұрын
Great thought! There's lots of extra things to know here... often the methane used is methane that's been captured as a biproduct from burning fossil fuels... so in a way this is could be considered using the biproduct (somewhat sustainable?) also in the chamber ... 99% of the is actually hydrogen. Typically this is gained by burning fossil fuels (not sustainable). There is a way to get sustainable hydrogen (but only 5% of industrial hydrogen is obtained this was so a producer must purposely seek it if they want this ingredient to be sustainable) There is a couple of companies that try to make an additional aspect to sustainability by using CO2 captured from the air as the carbon source instead of methane (just like your idea!). From the dozens of CVD producers I know of - two do this. Generally speaking, unless a crazy effort is put into sustainable ingredients and energy sources, mass production of laboratory-grown diamonds (and of almost all products) has an environmental cost. Some producers offset any carbon footprint this to become more sustainable or even carbon neutral. Some do not.
@TheGemAcademy2 жыл бұрын
And regarding colour... HPHT can be grown as colourless (not discussed in video) most are brown this colour and are beautiful and bright - DEF equivalent! CVD can be grown as colourless too... but most often are grown brown and treated. Not in a steam bath... but actually either in the HPHT apparatus... we're talking 2000 degrees C with 5-6 GPa of pressure!! Or heated in a vacuum (CVD growth chamber) for a whilst to realign the structure removing the brown colour :)

Jewelers and Dealers do use "synthetic" for Moissanite and CZ. Best to just call them Lab Grown especially when dealing with GenX +.
@Stettafire6 ай бұрын
Moissonite isn't the same stone as lab grown diamond. Also CZ is wildly different to moissanite (CZ is kinda fragile by comparison and doesn't have as much fire. The difference is NOT subtle). So labelling them both as "synthetic diamond" is inaccurate and confusing for the costomer. Just call them what they are

I purchased a Color E, VVS2, Excellent Cut (GIA Certified) 2.2 carat diamond and I'm very curious to know if it would test positive on Diamond Tester. From research, I read that it would have to be more color, past G Range to test as moissanite, but wanted your opinion! Thanks
@AmerPridexxx Жыл бұрын
You might have a natural earth diamond that was treated with HPHT process (which enhances the color and clarity), rather than a seed grown HPHT (GIA report would have an asterisk next to color grade with note saying enhanced) ❤ Added: Scanners/testers are available to screen for enhancement treatment but I would guess most jewelers don't have these machines

@@AshishLalani Form what I understand from watching the experts videos and reading articles: Some lab diamonds can test as mossanite depending on how they were grown (or even a bad tester), however the diamond properties will still be diamond (mossanite is less hard and double refractive, and made with different component). Hi there! I am a big fan of lab diamonds. Thanks for sharing the video. I think they are a better investment than ground diamonds. The differences between the two can be slight or a lot, depending on how they were made. The geometry of light can be seen as perfect on lab diamonds more than ground diamonds. However, there are perfect to poor quality on either one. But, the reasoning is, diamonds shouldn't be treated like they are crystal orbs. Poor, too poor, but gemstones are always beautiful to look at.
