In this video, we demonstrate our Labrador Retriever puppy training strategies, techniques, and examples.
First we cover our core obedience exercises then we go out back for some environmental socialization, exercise, and retrieving work.
The AKC describes the Labrador's temperament as a kind, pleasant, outgoing and tractable nature. Labradors' sense of smell allows them to home in on almost any scent and follow the path of its origin. They generally stay on the scent until they find it. Navies, military forces and police forces use them as detection dogs to track down smugglers, thieves, terrorists and black marketers. They are known to have a very soft feel to the mouth, as a result of being bred to retrieve game such as waterfowl. They are prone to chewing objects (though they can be trained to abandon this behaviour).
Labradors have a reputation as a very even-tempered breed and an excellent family dog. This includes a good reputation with children of all ages and other animals.Some lines, particularly those that have continued to be bred specifically for their skills at working in the field (rather than for their appearance), are particularly fast and athletic. Their fun-loving boisterousness and lack of fear may require training and firm handling at times to ensure it does not get out of hand-an uncontrolled adult can be quite problematic. Females may be slightly more independent than males. Labradors mature at around three years of age; before this time they can have a significant degree of puppy-like energy, often mislabelled as being hyperactive. Because of their enthusiasm, leash-training early on is suggested to prevent pulling when full-grown.Labradors often enjoy retrieving a ball endlessly (often obsessively) and other forms of activity (such as agility, frisbee, or flyball.)I hope you guys enjoy!

Stonnie said "This is a stick pile, there's definitely some snakes in here for sure." Then he calls for his daughter and puppies to sit with him on top of the pile. Haha. You crack me up, Stonnie.

We just got a lab puppy, he’s the sweetest goofball ever. We having a hard time leash training him, he freezes when we put one on him even with the best treats. Someone has hurt him before we got him, we think he was a Christmas present that didn’t work out. He was dumped out of car right by our driveway. 😢 Lucky us in the end, he still has all his puppy teeth and a few molars so he’s young.

Thanks for the video. My dog is now a year old and this basis things you teach have helped us so much. I still use treats though but it works. My only problem with my dog is that he sometimes finds things more interesting than me. Like other dogs. Have gotten us into some problems as I usuallly go hiking without a leash on him.

Love your videos. I am right now looking for a Labrador retriever breeder. I will be viewing a litter soon. I have had a hard time finding one. They are either English Labs, or wild Field Labs. I lost the most perfect lab ever to a pancreas condition. She was trained in Obedience, Agility and Tracking, and then I lost her. Any suggestions on how to find a good all around puppy?

Can i teach the smoothness at 3?. Mine is good in basic obedience, distraction training , bring stuff like tv remote and even taught her to hand signals for STOP, down stay up to 30 feet and front. I like following the stick thing . I taught her to look but the stick follow i think is something i like to teach tricks.

Another excellent, entertaining video, keep up the good work. Would I be right in thinking that some breeds are hard to teach the fetch game? I have a 6 month old presa canario that has been a pleasure to train so far, very intelligent, but he has no interest in going after a ball after the second or third throw. He just looks at me as if to say "I'm not fetching it again, I just brought it back already." it's not a function he needs to learn but I'm just curious if some stubborn dogs simply won't entertain fetch?

Really curious of your guys’ thoughts about the following. My lady and I are picking up our 8 week old Wirehaired Pointing Griffon in a couple o’ weeks. We just got off the phone with the vet and they insisted until the dog gets a full 16 week vaccination (1 round at 8 weeks, another round at 12 weeks, etc.), we shouldn’t walk the dog where other dogs have been, and then she went as far as to say we shouldn’t even let the dog go outside! For 16 weeks! Is it just me or is that ridiculous modern paranoid thinking...? To give her the benefit of the doubt, we do live in an urban environment but heck, far as I’m concerned it ain’t much different than the suburbs I grew up in. The plan is still the same: bring the dog to the local park and let it have a ball with all the other pooches. Stonnie, audience, help me out here-do we really need 16 weeks worth of vaccines before our dog can smell another dog’s pile of poop and participate in typical friendly sniffing of fellow K9 private parts?

How long of a walk could my puppy handle right now? 30min,1hr etc
@youngmanchake
@youngmanchake 5 жыл бұрын
@@madaluna452 the point is that you have your puppy experience the various situations it'll get into in the future with as good and comfortable feelings as possible. for example, people, dogs, traffic, noises, water, etc. I mean anything it could frequently deal with at any time during its life. walk is a second matter during this critical period for the socialization. you can walk it as it likes, but you can pick it up now and then if it's convenient. young puppy's get tired soon.

Hey stonnie, my name is Adrian, I got a dog without thinking, and of course this was my second year living on my own I had just moved out of my parents house, and I’m barely starting his training 1 1/2 year later which really wasn’t smart. But I would appreciate it if you could get back to me I have a couple of questions to see if I’m doing anything wrong especially since I’m late in his training. He knows sit and down also stay but he breaks it a lot.
