Can someone who understands more than me explain how the knee injury happened? Was he stubborn and didn't tap in time or was the other guy being irresponsible with his use of force?
@pricedownproductions98514 жыл бұрын
It is definitely NOT a matter of Lachlan Giles being irresponsible with his use of force. Lachlan had the finishing grip; even the commentators recognized that Giles had a grip that was a potential finish well before the submission. At 3:30 Giles stretched the submission to the point where most persons would tap. It was not particularly explosive. At this point it is up to Gaudio to tap or not. At 3:32 Giles stretches the submission further and the knee pops. Was Gaudio being especially stubborn? It's hard to say. Most people will tell you that heel hooks are not painful until it's too late. In the heat of competition with adrenaline flowing it's often natural for competitors to wonder if their opponent has stretched the submission as far as they can.
@skeedshooter70914 жыл бұрын
Emir EC heel hooks hurts instantly once it comes on, very little time to tap once it does. can’t blame lachlan for yanking the submission, it is ADCC and not to mention the size difference
@BioBroly1114 жыл бұрын
Heelhook is very fast submision, its normal that people get injured. Thats why its banned in ibjjf. If you dont want to get injured by it you need to tap when he traps the heel, otherwise its 2late. People dont do that because they think they can slip out, and when they are wrong this is what happens.
@BestWayKilla4 жыл бұрын
Heel hooks don't have a pain threshold where you gradually start to feel it hurt more the more the joint is extended. One moment you feel nothing, and the next, your ankle and your knee are being ripped apart. Even if someone does tap the moment they feel it, there's a really good chance of them getting hurt.
@JustinColletti2 жыл бұрын
It looks to me like Gaudio has about 3 seconds to tap from when it is locked in to when the damage is being done. It’s a fairly short window, but no shorter than for an arm bar or Kimura at this level. The only difference is that you are more likely to have pain signals telling you to tap 1 second in on an arm bar or Kimura, where with the heel hook you kind of have to have the knowledge of what kind of position you are in, and be thinking about the consequences clearly, to tap appropriately at 1 second in, as there is no pain signal that early on. Would I tap where Lachlan had him, immediately when the grip was set in, before damage occurred? During training, absolutely, with a full second or two to spare. During a super high stakes tournament? …I hope so. Maybe this is part of why I don’t compete in high stakes tournaments! But it could also very be that Gaudio lacked familiarity with the position. You really didn’t see a lot of backside 50/50s before this. With that in mind, part of me wishes Giles gave a *little* more time to tap since it was a relatively novel version of the heel hook at the time. But at these stakes it’s also hard to fault him. And even if you don’t know this specific setup, if you know what a heel hook feels like, you should probably know you are in a pretty damn tight one here, even if you’ve never been put in one at this specific angle before.

@machinegunpreacher24693 жыл бұрын
Good question. Simply put, it's Because Gaudio is a wrestler. There is no such thing as guard in wrestling. The position doesn't occur except when it happens by accident; so wrestlers are almost universally taken aback by a complex, offensive guard game. Wrestlers, even in high level MMA rarely know how to pass high level guards. Not to say they're not successful or that they can't beat somebody who has a good guard (Mark Coleman for example, pioneered GnP from the guard). But wrestlers aren't trained to deal with it and it's not something you can master in 16 weeks of training camp. Look at Chael Sonnen, a phenomenal wreslter with a lot of success, but never figured out the guard game during his time in the UFC.
@jsl84612 жыл бұрын
@@machinegunpreacher2469 Gaudio is not a wrestler, he comes from a BJJ family. He's never competed in wrestling in his life, and his standup technique is not very good by ADCC standards.
