Two problems with the video review: 1) @2:32 The HDDs inside are "IronWolf Pro" (not plain "Ironwolf"), so they're actually ENTERPRISE class drives, with a higher MTBF rate (^15 instead of ^14). Something important to mention, otherwise people wouldn't understand the high price of these devices. 2) The LaCie brand is pronounced 'lay-see' (US) or 'la-see' (EU), and not 'lass-ee-air'. Otherwise they'd be spelt "LaCier" or similar, which they're not.

Also if you're connecting the laptop using the thunderbolt cable, the USB-C 3.1 port turns off. You can't plug anything into that.

I bought a 7 port USB 3 hub and hooked 7 - 5 TB WD USB self powered backup drives to it and got 35 TB's of storage for my media center. The drives were just over $125 each. For a total of $900. The speed is just under what this will do on it's best day but I am very happy with it and I don't need $60 Thunderbolt cables. Plus if one fails it's more easily replaced than paying $400 for one of these 8 TB drives.

I bought one a few days ago i just found out i can plug in other Lacie drives which will be helpful to set them up when i need to.

When I connect the 16TB 2BIG hard disk set with RAID1(SAFE) to my Mac book air, Should I display 2 hard disk of 8TB each, its correct? Or the Mac display only one big Hard disk of 8TB without showing the mirror hard disk?
@jaimeduncan61676 жыл бұрын
just one drive, the mirror hide that you have two drives, that way the operative system see just one drive and both drives get the same data. If you want to see two drives configure them as JBOD

has anyone actually been able to connect a monitor to this thing? Not sure if my cable is bad or monitor but I have tried multiple variations with no success.
@runneryg3 жыл бұрын
yes, you can use an external thunderbolt cable Lacie you need a thunderbolt to drive an apple USB thunderbolt 3 to a thunderbolt 2 cable for about £49 connect the apple USB to the LaCie big 2, and the thunderbolt cable going from Lacie drive to the back of the apple display thunderbolt port on the back. or get a Belkin dock or you can use the USB apple cable from the MacBook pro plugged in.

Have just received a 2Big Thunderbolt 3 with 20 TB, but I'm not sure if it is damaged. In Raid 1 mode (no active programs access the harddisks), I hear strange clicks. There is no data on it yet. Is that sound normal? I have uploaded an MP3 here: berndkuehl.com/download/LaCie2BigDockThunderbolt3.mp3

I would contact the (online) store where you bought it. Clicks always scare me when coming out of a drive.
