Spectacular scenes, immaculate equipment and a railroad thriving in a tough era. Thanks!

Yes even every ticket taxed to help build airports and highways. Up to 15% of the fare until 1962. Many pictures from before 1955. When the railroad was double tracked. Public interest demands return of this service and quick

Wow ! What a great video and fantastic camera work. Beautiful scenery in those majestic hills and isn't nice not to see any graffiti ! Our standards were much higher back then on a lot of things.

In that time, people were taught to respect private property, in this case, the railroads property. Graffiti was considered to be wrong.

Spray paint graffiti started in the 1990's and got progressively worse, as far as I am able to tell by videos on YT. It spoiled my interest in contemporary railroading, to a large extent.

This stuff is priceless! I have an emotional connection to the Cut-off. Im not from NJ originally though Ive lived here 40 years now. I grew up down South and as a kid was a huge RR fan/modeler (my GGF was a SP engineer in Texas) but then lost interest when sports and girls happened. Fast forward to the late 90's and I am a wireless engineer designing a cellular network for a carrier. There is a monopole just south of the cutoff in Andover (west side of Rte 206... anyone know where I mean?). It sits smack in the roadbed of the old Sussex line. I personally selected the placement of that monopole. I have HATED myself for it ever since. I started investigating the history of the whole area, the railroads DL&W, L&H, L&NE.... and especially the cut-off. It really got me back interested in railroad history especially here in NJ. Once we got the thing zoned and built I felt so guilty for what I felt after the fact was kind of defacing history. I would love to see that area in the late 1940's. I love having found these restored films. Thank you for saving them.

that last shot is most likely Cresco facing north-ish going by the state on a curve. Vestals was on along straight away

Great video, so nice to see how that line was when it was up and running. I belive they are working on this line to restore it so that passenger service will be running on it again. I cant wait, so I can take a ride on the line to experience it.

Many parts had equipment moving I only have seen in books. Retired before I started riding the trains in 1963 on my own. And views long gone from trees now growing up on the right of way. And locals for the Poconos that need to return and soon.

Yes head end mail and express paid the bills. GM went right after it. Today it's slow, expensive XPO trucks. No more air mail either. The bag might be from Fort Wayne, Chicago or Cleveland. Loss of mail and express was the end of the trains.
