Scott and Nick tar the outside of the bin as well. They do make latex bin sealer as well, which is more pliable than tar. Also put crushed rock about inch and a half in diameter, all the way around the concrete base as well, to a depth of 6 inches, so the rodents won't did under the concrete base pad. Yes the family that I work for has 4 60 footers a 40 footer and a couple smaller ones. All just for corn. Beans generally go from field to elevator.

Not really, we have that and really hate it. You can't walk up the odd bin and tap on the side to see how full it is. You have to open the lid and real with the dust.

Pretty neat to see how they are built. I do electrical work and we worked on a farm where they had one of these built to add to two others, as well as a new elevator. I was lucky (?? lol) enough to be able to work on the very top of both the new bins and the elevator.

What about either spreading a driveway of shale or similar (or a concrete one) in line with the auger output area for the coming and goings of your truck's when accessing the bins? This video really brought back some memories as a kid in the 70's. About every other year Dad would buy the tar and as soon as we got home from school we were told to go change out of our school clothes , find a piece of lathe and start putting tar around the seam, not only on the inside of the bin, but outside. We had 3 bins for storage. 2- 25,000 bu. and 1-50,000 bushel bin. It was a messy job. You ended up with tar all over you no matter how careful you were. I really miss those days.

We just had a 3 million bushel bin built and 2 2.5 million bushel bin built in April they are massive but a great addition to are other 11 bins that we already had on the farm. The 11 bins we are had total 20 million bushels.

Greetings from Dawson County, Montana!! :-) Grain bin building was always an exciting time on my farm. HECK! Anything NEW on the farm was exciting. Anyway, we went with Butler brand bins 24' diameter and 15' high at the eve. Around 6,000 bushels We wound up with four of these "monsters" (to us anyway) and we were livin' high on the hog for a time. The 1st 2 were put up in the mid-1970's when wheat got to $5/bushel and the other 2 when I switched to a continuous cropping system and effectively doubled my crop acres. We put up all 4 bins ourselves and it great! On the negative side, those sheets of corrugated tin got white hot sitting in the sun waiting to be used. We put augers under the cement floor and this allowed us to greatly reduce our time in the bins when unloading. Scott, I used tar for many years on the bottoms of the bins but weren't very leak proof. I switched to a flexible product that came in 5 gallon buckets that you put on the OUTSIDE of the bin bottoms. I applied an additional coat of sun-resistant product to protect the flexible coat for a leak-proof bin that lasted for many years. The cost wasn't too terrible when considering the outcome. Hey Nick and Scott! Thank you for sharing your adventures of new bins! I hope you still don't have enough storage capacity for your crops this year. Take care...and be safe.

Would love to see a camera or cameras on top of the new bins for view to the horizon shots, the view was amazing! I think the drone shots now are just beautiful, it's not always convenient to stop and use it and a remote could just run. I live on the Oregon coast and we sand on the bluffs and look out to the edge of the world on the ocean and I get the same feeling when I see those shots from you folks! When you go to fill the bin, you actually want to make sure the sweep is sitting over the gates in the floor. Made that mistake last year. If you turn it on the way it is you’ll break a shear bolt immediately. Have to use a grain vac on that bin now until it’s cleaned to the auger..

This is very true. Used to work for a company that built grain bins for co-ops. They had one built we came in and put the floor fans augers and everything on. Got done in a week and they called us back with a the bin full saying the unload augers we stuck and the sweep auger wouldn't go around the bin. They sheared every bolt for the augers and completely twisted the sweep auger

Maybe that unloadeder is different but the ones on our bins that size require that the bin sweep be positioned over the side sump gates when the bin is filled. That way it doesn't have as much grain on it when starting the sweep for the first time. The guy that put up our bins said it was better to have that walk in side door near where the unloader auger is located so that way you can still get the door open if the sweep fails to operate as the side sump will remove enough grain. But then again if you have a grain vac like you guys do there is more than one way to unload a bin...😁😁

Great your finally getting some working space for grain. very enjoyable seeing what your doing there. Good luck with making a profit. A couple suggestions and observation of a mistake when the bin was erected. Before you fill the bins each year place the sweep just to the right side of the draw off ( as you look at the center from the wall) so they drain the grain from under the sweep. it will start much easier and give less problems in the long run. Place a grain spreader in the top of the bin to fill the bin level and spread any fines through the bin. the fines is block the air and that is where any spoilage takes place and it would block your center draw off hole, also when we use a spreader we get over 1000 bushel more corn in 30,00 bu bin than when it is not used. The mistake is the entrance doors in the wrong place. They should be right beside the unload augur so the door can be opened when you start the sweep. mush easier access to clean the bin between loads. it is a pain if you have to climb up and down the inside ladder when there is a problem. harder to get things into the bin to work on anything before the bin is empty. You can get an enclosed augur boot ends that the unload augur will feed into with out using a hopper. they reduce spillage because the augur does not throw grain out when flow is slow. and are easier to cover each night while unloading the bin. Finally get a frequency drive for the unload augurs, start at a slow speed and build up speed, the motor has the same amount of power at the slow speed as it does at the high speed but the load is easier because you slowly start moving the grain. again less stress and likely hood of breaking things.

Congrats on these nice bins. On a side note, on the right hand side bin, the sweep will actually have to go all the way around before you guys will be able to open the access door. I wood move the doors right over the unloading tube. It is nice to open the door and make sure everything is fine before you start that sweep.

Ag electrician here, however you decide to feed these bins, plan for the future. Either bring out 2x more than you think you need or prep extra conduits in the ground for future. Had to go back and upgrade a lot of farm operations after only a few years because they didn’t anticipate expansion. Good looking bins!

If you drive a colored stake into the ground next to those 3 phase motors, it will provide a danger marker if snow is blown into the gap between bins for tractor or Bobcat clean-out.

This is what i was talking about a few episodes ago. False floor bins are the jam. So happy you guys got these in your inventory, you're going to love them. One piece of advice, make sure to keep them very clean between uses, cleanliness is next to Godliness when it comes to these systems and it's not just fungus or other things, but pests too. May you use them for years to come.

If I might, a suggestion: pour a small pad for a step under the steps going up the side of the bin. It doesn't need to be more than the size of a tread on the ladder (maybe a bit larger, but not so much that you have to walk another step to get off it on your way down). Make the top of the pad the same distance lower than the last step as the steps are apart on the ladder -- even if that gives you a much smaller step down to the ground. You won't mind the smaller step down, but just remember "That last step is a Dilly/Douzie" if it is as much different from what the stair tread spacing as it looks now.

Most bins have the unload tube is near the door. After intermedates have been opened during grain removal and grain removed the door will open easily.

They should have had the doors moved closer to where the take out auger is. They will find out that this is gonna be an issue when emptying the bin as the side takeouts most likely will not get the grain down low enough to open the door. As a side note also they better put that drag closer to the secondary takeouts or they gonna be doing some shoveling to unbury it. That is after they burn the belts off. This is a mistake my family also did 30 years ago when building our bins and we have had to deal with it ever since.

Always awesome to see new bins being constructed in this crazy year. On a curious note, why don't they have the door right above the unload? It would save so many headaches in the future. Also I would recommend parking the sweep either above or just behind intermediate sumps. That way when you go to use it your not starting the sweep under a pile of grain. Just my 2 cents of field experience.

Yep galvanize is not what it use to be dragging it on the concrete 😠 , get some more sealant to go round out side to stop water getting at the sheet ends and helps back up the stuff on the inside go up two ribbes and mask off for the straight line 😁

I did some math. there are over 8,000 nuts and bolts on these 2 bins. best I can tell there is 10 sheets per ring and 56 bolts per sheet, so that's 560 nuts and bolts per ring times 7 rings or 3920 nuts and bolts per bin not including all the trimmings.

Careful when your running the sweep. When there is no grain in front of the sweep it moves very fast. I like to sweep mine out as it unloads to make the job seem like less work. But when it's almost done I get you as the sweep augur comes around really fast.

they look great. on the drier barn, i used to use we put tar on the outside as well
