Lady Gaga's rendition of the National Anthem was part of her speech. With that, the changed lyrics makes sense, in the fact that she intended for it to be a powerful message. Firstly, she was not saying that all Americans are homosexual in the statement "and a home FOR the gay". She was expressing that America is also a home for homosexuals. Secondly, I see no reason for this to be offensive. She was not officially singing the US. national Anthem. She was singing a rendition of it, with changed lyrics to express a strong message of equality. I would find it offensive, however, if she was officially singing the National Anthem, per say at a sporting event or any other event, and changed the lyrics. Her rendition of the US. National Anthem was a continuation of her speech. Simply a reference to a national song that stands to keep the nation united. In her version, the difference in lyrics stands to symbolize that the National Anthem, the soul of America, and the equality of America, apply to homosexuals as well. She did not sing the National Anthem, therefore I see no reason for controversy of that matter. In another view, the controversy is a success. With more controversy, more people will be involved, which means more people will hear it and hear the message, effectively making the statement widely known.

It's not like you Americans respect your national anthem. During sports games and political events, people are cheering for the singer, shuffling, talking amongst themselves. Many say this rendition was better than the Super Bowl, which is not true. The surroundings are completely different, thus the acoustics. Can you imagine standing alone on the wide-open stadium - it's just you and your voice, and the void around you. It's so hard to do, and she did a meticulous job there. Operatic singing was magical (here as well great). To me the Super Bowl Gaga's performance is the best version of the National Anthem. But i love listening to this one, it's so cozy and filled with love and passion.

Yes, it derives from a poem (created in 1814 btw), and it was set to the tune of a British song. BUT, it was sanctioned officially as USA's national anthem in 1931 by congress, and signed in approval by our then president, Herbert Hoover. Fellow Americans, please learn our country's history before spouting ignorant nonsense. With that said, I don't mind that she switched up some of the words because I understand her purpose in doing so.

Let us forget if you don't like gay culture; let us forget that she changed a few words. This is a beautiful composition of the Nation Anthem vocally. Personally, I support her changed lyrics (although I am not gay). It is not a disgrace to the country. You know what is a disgrace? We have already gone against everything our founding fathers, especially George Washington, had created for us. Lady GaGa changing the lyrics should be the least of our concerns, but it is always easier to attack others than to realize we ourselves are the problem. As a musician and vocalist, I love this piece. As an American, I love this piece. As a straight woman, I love this piece. Patriotism isn't cut and dry, and neither is "treason."

I was all happy watching these and then i have the saddest idea, to scroll down and read the comments. For christ sakes, every single video of Lady Gaga is the same thing, variations on a sad key till exhaustion. The comments, everytime, are centered in a negative aspect and hardly they get out of that cycle. Just for starters, is she doing something very wrong? She's there, i suppose genuinely happy to be a part of the whole thing. She spares a little of her free time and goes there with a good energy, does her best in singing the anthem. Could she have sang better? Yes, a lot, it was above average though, way above most pop singers. Well it's so hard singing acapella and it's a demanding song, she was a tempo, well she ended up going half step higher in the middle but mantained it. That usually indicates that you're using too much air, she wasn't completely relaxed singing it and the voice gets dim and bit airy, wich happens with most singers, as the musical intervals are pretty wide. But i could feel it, so that's just technical stuff, they always focus themselves too much on singing it, and blast the vocals like it is some canon to show they're might, it ends up being aggressive, at times. She still feels, or all the time, like she has to prove herself. Well she proved it, lol. Full of Gaga manneirisms, as well But changing the lyrics a bit, the national anthem isn't something out of a museum, unchanging. Things have live, no one's gonna die for it, no dead president will come and haunt the world. There wasn't anything disrespectul about it, unecessary, maybe!? But Gaga does it all the time, and in the end, even if it inst only another song, well it is. It's a symbol of the great nation that USA is, even some other people feel patriotic towards America listening to the anthem and feeling how proud they are in being part of that nation and dream. But the thing about the anthem is that eveybody is suppose to gather around and there's nothing else besides that moment, it's like having a minute of silence for a cause. And yet we are human, go to a school and kids are singing and pretending while they kick each others or something. That's not disrespectful, it was imposed on them. It's just like going to a mass and obey the church rules. For christ sake, things don't stand still, that's fighting our nature. She did nothing wrong, she looks cute, proud of something, feeling the moment, singing with pride, making people happy, isnt that still enough? Cant she ever be victorious? The things she does wrong for me is that she's very repetitive and still feels like eveyday is a stepping stone. But it's not that hard to figure out why. And many here are masking some pretentious excuse of patriotism and the likes, when it all gets to one thing, they can't compliment her. I guess that's human nature as well, deluding ourselves.
