I must have been living in a bubble and please excuse my ignorance. This is the first performance I ever saw from Lady Gaga. Before I just heard a lot of criticism about her dressing and how she was a Madonna wannabe. This performance just made me realize how foul the press can be. Up until today I still watch this video and tears come out of my eyes. It's so true that a book can't be judged by the cover. I opened the book and found many interesting chapters on Lady Gaga: with Tony Bennett when I immediately realized that she is not just any singer she is also a performer who tells the story through melodies with the timbre of her beautiful voice to make us feel what she is interpreting. No wonder my former classmate Steve Kortyka enjoys every performance with you. And when I heard "Shallow" you just knocked me off my feet. I remember watching this with family and friends and honestly was so blind to Lady Gaga's singing ability before this. I really love this version. She took her time...you felt every note. It was different but in a good way. So many singers change the style when they sing this song and they ruin it, but Lady gaga gave it her own touch and still kept the integrity of the song. I am very sensitive to that kind of stuff and, having listened to the original broadcast version countless times, I instantly noticed something was amiss here. I didn't initially dare to conclude with absolute certainty, so I downloaded the audio from both versions and compared them side by side and together in Cubase (audio editing software). Sure enough, in a few instances throughout the song, the pitch has without a doubt been corrected for no good reason at all. I detest this kind of manipulation, especially when it is absolutely unnecessary and only serves to make it less human. Please go to another video for this great performance as the Vevo version has been tainted.
