No matter how often I watch this movie I love it more n more!! Being a former burlesque dancer in the 1980's, I TOTALLY remember every aspect of the business, and it is represented here so well, it's as if I was there at the time the movie was made!! It warms my heart, cuz I always chose to work in places where we were like family, all the employees from the maintenance staff to the owners n performers!!! This movie makes me homesick for the days I used to work as a dancer, n believe me, I started out as a 🩰 ballet dancer for over 6 yrs!!! It was the same working in the ballet venue as it was in the burlesque venue, we all lived like we were a family!!! Now I am 66 yrs old n STILL miss the camaraderie that the situations germinated!!! Hence, I shall ALWAYS watch this movie every time you tube so graciously permits it to be shown for free. Thanks, UTube!!

I always prefer watching the original B&W versions for some reason. They just look better visually to me. But I absolutely appreciate the choice CCC! Thank you for this one! Fantastic, snappy ,hilarious dialog along with a good murder mystery. Love it!

The whole making of the filme was thought in black and white, that is why it is better to be seen in its original look.

Barbara Stanwyck is one of my all-time favorite actors. She is so natural, so authentic and believable. Way ahead of her time in sensitive topics and blows away to the top of the game.

Thanx muchly, CCC, for sharing this little treasure, and especially for presenting it in its original b&w format. Loved Barbara in "Ball of Fire", and this one was fun, too. Burlesque queen times two. 😊 I'd read Gypsy's book, but this is my first time with the movie. Pinky Lee. I recognized him and that silly hat of his. Hard to believe that the star of one of my favorite kiddie shows from sooooo long ago started in burlesque. I met him, when I was a lot older. He was in a traveling show with the great Ann Corio, "This Was Burlesque". I told him that i was a faithful fan, and watched him every day on The Pinky Lee Show and then when he hosted The Gumby Show. He hugged me, and said it was nice to meet one of 'his kids', and we sang the Pinky Lee song and the Gumby song. Did you know his signature lisp was real? He said he even had it insured. He introduced me to Ann Corio. She was very sweet. A beautiful and gracious lady. Michael O'Shea. I had such a crush on him from movies and tv. He had beautiful eyes. RIP, Gypsy, Barbara, Pinky and Michael, and thanx so very much, dear Ladies and gentle Men, for the magic, music, and memories. (edit for typo)

Although, Barbara's face was familiar in the 1970s, when Brazilian TV used to show 1940s films in the afternoon matinees. The first film I remember was 'Roustabout' where she played the owner of a travelling carnival and was starred by Elvis Presley. Last year, I watched 'The Strange Love Of Martha Ivers', a noir film where she performs alongside novice Kirk Douglas and Ven Hefin. Before this film, I didn't have any idea of what a great actress she was. I was attracted to this movie because of Ven Hefin after watching deliver a great performance on Rod Serling's film 'Patterns'.

Wow, is there anything Stanwyck couldn't do? Straight drama, noir, screwball comedy, westerns and here a hard boiled , wisecracking burlesque dame. This part was turned down by Ginger Rogers and Stanwyck makes it her own. Fabulous!
