Two months ago I filmed a full explore on Ladybower Plughole and Outlet. Its now in full flood and overflowing down the plughole.
The video will show the plughole in full flow and also the other end, the outlet with a torrent of water flowing out

Not only was the water flowing through plughole impressive, but also seeing the amount of effort you put in to creating your videos. Climbing down a hillside to place a camera, climbing back up so you can climb down on video, then climbing back up to get the camera. That repeated over and over and over again. All to create scenes that make for a very enjoyable viewing experience. Thank you for all your effort in making these videos.

When i was on holiday 20 years ago, there was a reservoir need to the camp site. I got the pleasure of watching it over flow, and went back 6 months later and the owners, had drained it right down, to the point you could walk on the bottom. I walked right down the bank, then on the platform that would be well under water, walked right up to the spillway structure, looked right up to the funnel part. I thought bloody hell this is one very high structure, must have been well over 100 feet tall! So Christ knows how deep the reservoir was when it was full. The mad thing was, even though it was fully empty, one corner still had water and you could not even see the bottom! It amazes me how deep the places really are,

You’re right, Patrick Dickinson, this is amazing, and those who built and maintain it should be grateful you are letting the remote world know about it. I’ve never yet heard or seen of such technology! The plughole is beautiful. Reminds me of a whirlpool fountain. I am so grateful I happened upon your video today via internet Bing! Hailing from Minnesota, United States. We are known as the “Land of 10,000 Lakes”, and we could learn much from this English engineering. Thank you for posting. You have a new subscriber, me, “Slide” and “Frenchgemini” on KZbin. And kudos to you for filming on “private property”. As much as we try to control water, it will never be “private”. I learned two new words today! Plughole and spillway. To me, they are man-made waterfalls. A water reservoir damn structure to control flooding, It’s tempting not to jump into this thing. It looks to me like a water park amusement ride. Where does the end of the waterflow tunnel lead to? Does this catch fish, frogs, turtles and snakes? It’s very beautiful and relaxing to look at and listen to. If they could adapt this reservoir into a water amusement park thrill ride, (it’d be cleaner than those indoor ones), imagine the financial fortune they could make and keep people amused at the same time! Whiskey barrel ride! Drink the whiskey barrel empty, you’ll have enough liquid courage and the empty barrel for the thrill ride, ha ha ha I bet there’s good fishing at the plughole outlet. We just can’t beat the beautiful musical sound of the flow of water. I even hear a songbird call in the background. The water flow audio in your video is good, strong and steady. PS Patrick Dickinson, at first, I thought you were going to take us through the actual water flow of the plughole, as in with a wetsuit, goggles, snorkels, oxygen tanks and a water-proof camera. Perhaps another video? The outlet of the plughole reminds me of “The Tunnel of Love” with the arched doorway we used to travel through at local carnivals.

Hi and great to hear from you from all the way in Minnesota, plughole is a local name that we all learnt when very young and probably first saw the plughole, safely held in our parents arms. Filmed it best I could, but it's missing the load deafening roar as the water drops down nearly 100 foot. I have also learnt from the comments how the term of Glory Hole is referred to these amazing feats of engineering the US, great to have you along, all the best Pat

No, seriously this is impressive and thanks for going to the trouble to film, but only today I heard on radio that Britain is at risk of running out of water in next 20 years, it's March 2019 now so if this dam is releasing this much water regularly then maybe we should save more!?😎

@bullsballs thumbs up on your reply buddy! 👍👍 Very sensible and true answer. If we looked at restricting how many children we have etc, then our population would satisfactorily decrease over time but we live in a society that easily encourages people to have more than two children per couple thus increasing the population. Sad but true, but that begins yet another very diplomatic arguement. We could however, learn to do what other "rain deficient" water encapsulated countries do and purify sea water, but I personally see no need as we are one of the wettest countries around! It wasn't that long ago I remember being told the great floods we had a few years ago would be a regular occurrence?

Thanks for filing the outlet. You're right in that it's rarely shown. A small 100-year-old hydroelectric dam near my house wasn't built with an overflow drain of any sort. When the rains are heavy enough that the newer dam upstream must let water pass (they can control their overflow), the water simply flows over the top of our little dam. It's quite a sight (I have a short clip of it on here on my site titled "Lookout Dam Flooding May 8, 2013 - From the Road"). The lake downstream is quite significant and supports three separate power systems, a hydroelectric dam, a coal plant, and a nuclear power site. It can easily take the overflow from us.

Not sure if they're called something else in the US, but in baths and basins here in the UK, the hole out of which the water drains is called a plughole, so this example just looks like a monster version of that

There is a picture of the Ladybower overflow on the BBC news website today, so it’s great to see this. My dad used to take me to see the overflow either in action, or during droughts - in particular, 1976. He used to tell me how he remembered the valley before the dam was built.

Me and my parents used to go there every Sunday, from Horbury, Wakefield. with sandwich spread sandwiches, and flasks of tea. Only problem was we drove there in a robin reliant. This was 1974 till 1979. I used to crouch down in the back going up snake pass. because the car was in 1st gear doing 10mls an hour. GOOD MEMORIES. Thank you for the reminder.
