Royal Albatross ~ Julia Weighs SSTrig Chick! Needs Two Hands Now! Sharyn Turns Sprinklers On 2.5.25

Ranger Julia stops by the nest and takes SSTrig chick's weight. Notice how she goes in with one hand and has to use her second hand now to pick up the chick! It is growing so fast! Mum GLG is very active in the process and wants to touch everything! Julia puts the chick in the bag and takes its weight and then returns to GLG.
Later, Sharyn is seen turning on the sprinklers for the albatross as it was a warm day. She will turn them off and do a quick check a few hours later on the family and give a thumbs up. Thank you for watching!

📌 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝟏𝟎 𝐨𝐟 𝐑𝐨𝐲𝐚𝐥𝐜𝐚𝐦 (2024-2025)
Nest site: Signal Station Trig. Taiaroa Head, New Zealand
Royalcam Couple: RLK (Red, Lime, black) 12-year-old male and GLG (Green, Lime Green) 14-year-old female.
Egg laid: November 11th 2024. It has been candled and is fertile. RLK and GLG will take turns to incubate the egg for 2.5 months.
Egg hatched: January 28th 2025
This pair started breeding in 2019/20, but their egg failed that season. They successfully raised two female chicks during 2021 and 2023 respectively. Their nests during these seasons were not far from the Royalcam nests of Tiaki and Manaaki and the chicks were seen on cam later in the season.

Mom is much more tolerant of the human than dad is. But even she has her limits. When the whole process takes too long, she uses her bill to remind the Ranger that she would like her chick back now, thank you very much!

Wow! The baby really has grown a good bit! It seems quite a bit bigger than it did when it was first brought back 😊. Such a precious albie family, I love them! lol mom was reaching out to preen her baby while the ranger was still holding it, I wonder if it was in an effort to calmly reassure the baby. It’s amazing how much they trust the rangers! I had gotten used to it but every now and then It hits me again how amazing that is! Thank you for sharing Lady Hawk 😊 really enjoying this season already- that baby is so cute 🥰😍🥰
