Great videos Igor, I must have watched 6-7 over the last few days. I've picked up loads of tips on your deliveries, thank you. I did my 1st Biscay crossing in March, crewing on a new FP 42 cat, rounding Galicia in 5m - 6m waves, 24hrs after a F9 gale was an eye opener having mostly just been a coastal sailor up to then! The trip was great fun tho. Keep up the good work.

I know you are always looking for ways to pass on your sailing knowledge and so I would love to hear you give some in-depth advice on sail plans for different sea conditions and wind directions. Nice video. I've been sailing for close to 10 years on offshore ships, I have a tip for sleeping: For bad weather on ships use earplugs and put stuff under your mattress so you are wedged between the wall and the mattress. You move a lot less and should be able to rest a bit.

@@JoseRivero-js5owI only sailed 46. Elba is probably similar to Saona who I gave good review. Fp42 probably the worst of these. Any of these boats should bring you to Caribbean but don’t take them to North Atlantic in winter.

Great video, one question as I am considering a Lagoon cat, I noticed a creaking sound in your video, do you know what that sound is and do you consider the boat to be quiet under sail? thanks.
@IgorStropnik5 жыл бұрын
Maybe waves bumping into area between hulls. If you get heavy weather and you sail upwind it sounds like boat will fall apart but it does not as it is well built. When you have normal weather boat is quiet.
@arvischilf29505 жыл бұрын
All Lagoons creaking that way. Probably built in. And its annoying. Depending how big is the boat. Havnt heard the same on FP for example.

Why did you let the waves pounding to the bow? Why dont you go diagonal to the waves? It may diminsih the life of the hull.
@IgorStropnik5 жыл бұрын
This was March and hard to get good weather window to cross biscay. On video you see few biggest waves otherwise it was not too bad. You can go diagonal but than you dont get where you have to go. Swell is always into biscay so if you loose height you will get eaven worese or stuck for sever days or more in harbour.

Igor how would you compare Lagoon 42 and 45? do you feel any advantage prons and cons? thank you.
@IgorStropnik6 жыл бұрын
L42 wins at cockpit design, good access to bum and main sail and the best lifting system for dingy. L42 self tack gib sucks- Impossible to trim the sail well. L450F wins at flybridge, more rigid and stronger hulls, better for heavy weather, better in big and short waves as it has more clearence so less banging. Bimini we had was grate for sun and rain but was to high and to big to allow good access to bum and main sail-I find this a big problem for long ocean sailing. Inside the L450F is a little bigger and more space but L42 has lot of space too and both are good for 8 people cruising in comfort. Both catamarans are very well designed and very comfortable. If I had to choose I take L450F because of flybridge. But for much less money you can get L42 with the best cockpit design and you can have furling Code 0 to supplement self tack gib.
@StartVisit6 жыл бұрын
Igor Stropnik thank you for detailed info! One more question, based on your personal experience, do you think cats like L450 or 42 with proper crew can handle long passages like transatlantic or pacific? Also do you think in overall catamaran is better choice compared to monohull for long voyages? Thank you again.
@IgorStropnik6 жыл бұрын
Both cats can sail around the world with no problems and with a lot of comfort. For long voyages cats are the best. I would say people buy sailboats becouse they are cheaper, they never tried cats, want good upwind performance, want sporty sailing and don't want to pay more in marinas. Sailboats are more fun to sail but after few days non stop sailing you will wish to be on cat. Only thing I don't like about cruising cats is up wind performance witch is terrible. But all other wind angles are grate.

Been looking through. Nice video. But here is some offers to skipper. Your wind data missing actually most important figures like apparent wind angle and speed. Instead you have TWD and TWA what is actually copying itself. The last leg after passing the Albufeira you got backwind and for some reason didnt fix your genoa into position, so it were flying and jumping and you definitely didnt got no comfort neither the top speed out of it. And boom traveller position didnt make sense as well, though boom you tried to fix into position. Maybe there were some time between you took the pic from windclock and then continued to talk and wind were changing the direction... Anyway all in all very positive and optimistic video. One of the best to say so on showing the real situation on the water.
@IgorStropnik5 жыл бұрын
B&G is funny as I could not set awa and aws on small screen. I put it on plotter. Twd is good to follow for wind shift tendency. For getting max out of sails I use extra ropes but it is not racing so after setting all the ropes over and over again and wind shifting sometimes you get lazy especially if your speed is already very good.
