Hi @IgorStropnik! I will be doing almost the same trip around the end of March. Starting from Les Sables going to Malta. Thank you for the video, it's very helpful as I've never done this route and I'm looking to build miles for my Yachtmaster. When did you do this trip? In April?

Why are you motor sailing with 15 knots of wind?
@IgorStropnik3 жыл бұрын
Downwind 180 deg can be slow with no Code 0 so you can add up few knots if you need to avoid bad weather, catch a flight of crew member, or just to get beer and pica sooner...

Nice video :) can you please tell me how many hours you put in the engine on the trip? Thanks

Average is 250h per delivery. More wind less hours. No time to wait for wind. Once we used engine across all med as there was zero wind.

Wow amazing video. This video is one of the main reasons I ordered a Lagoon 42 last week. As a future owner (mine arriving June 22) and as an absolutely novice sailor who is confused about the options, can you please help me understand the options related to the sails 1. Do I need a Code 0. I will be sailing in Egypt in the summer where the wind speed averages around 15-20 km/hr in the summer. Will the standard sails be enough ? 2. Which one is easier for a novice sailor to use : the Code 0 or the spinnaker ? because there is an alternative option for a spinnaker. 3. There is an option about SET OF REINFORCED STANDARD SAILS WITH LAZY BAG + COVER - PAPYRUS. Do you know What is that exactly ? Hatem A Tawfik, MD Cairo, Egypt

Great video. How comfortable do you find the standard seating cushions in the saloon? If you want to be able to turn that area into another berth you can’t get the upgraded interior seat cushions as an option, so was wondering how comfortable you found the standard seating to be?
@IgorStropnik3 жыл бұрын
Standard are perfect. Nobody ever complained about them.
@tlevans623 жыл бұрын
@@IgorStropnik thanks Igor, so it's probably better to look at the option of turning that area into another berth? Any other advice on options to get?
@IgorStropnik3 жыл бұрын
@@tlevans62 It is very nice berth as you get a lot of air and space. I am not sure if I like square top as it hooks to lazy jack when lifting. It is good to have anchor remote next to helm.
@tlevans623 жыл бұрын
@@IgorStropnik that’s good to know, wasn’t sure if I should get the square top or go for the upgraded regular sails with the additional UV protection and extra stitching. I heard the square top is better in light winds, but I’m going for the Code O so that will probably make a bigger difference. Not sure about the teak decks either, thinking they might be a bit too much maintenance. The dealer was trying to talk me into the upgraded lounge cushions but I think the standard ones are probably fine, so your input sure helps. I wish they had better solar options, but I’ll go for the three flexible ones they offer and upgrade aftermarket later. How much range do you get on the engines if you only use one to motor along at around 5.5 knots?
@IgorStropnik3 жыл бұрын
@@tlevans62 Square top will not make u faster but code O will. It is nice to have teak in aft of the boat. Not hard to maintain it and looks and feels much better than white plastic. When I do deliveries I plan 1liter/Nm range and that includes some reserve. It depends a lot from sea state, wind and currents but these yanmar engines are fantastic. If you go to 1600rpm one engine will burn 2liters/h and give u speed around 4.5kn so that is over 1000NM range but you would probably use this tactics only when crossing ocean.

Nice video, but i'm wondering compared to your latest Vlog Igor from Amsterdam - Med. Sea with only 3 on board, why are you sooooooo many guys on this even smaller boat? 🤔🤔🤔🤔🧐 It seems like most of the Guys were good for fishing (fish of course), some drinking beer and others just to be present? Why so many of them? Sure enough, you could have brought a chef for your well being in terms of food, but that Guy is missing . . . perhaps i should have come with you? 😂🤣😂🤣 . . . get more then Crackers and cheese or Nutella. 😇🤗 Like your longer videos with more explanations! 👍🏻👍🏻👌🏻

Nice vid. One thing is for sure.....with the 42 you get allot of space for your money. I dont think this model can be beaten by another in the same price range, in some cases not even by more expensive cats. Keep sailing!
@IgorStropnik7 жыл бұрын
I agree. It is a grate cat. I find genova to small and don't like self tacking. If it had 450 genova it would be perfect.
@CatamaranChannel7 жыл бұрын
Ok. Why dont you like the self tacking? I like hearing opinions from owners, thats why i ask.
@IgorStropnik7 жыл бұрын
The sail area is to small. For downwind and upwind you cant get good shape of sail. It is only good for side wind. Tacking works fine but when you gibe it makes a huge bang and crew thinks we broke something.

@@IgorStropnik Yes, that was my thought 2, I also did 2 deliveries to HR and the reefing issue on a cat is always the thing, do you believe the handbook or you use a little more? Ho do you do that Igor?
@IgorStropnik6 жыл бұрын
@@sailingtours Handbook is ok. You can go with more sails if waves are nice. I usually trust my instinct-if it feels good than it is OK. If it feels scary or owerpowered than reef. Once you spend enought time on cats than you just know and feel. I would say the biggest problem is reefing when you are sailing downwind in big waves and suddenly the cat starts surfing too much . Than you have to turn upwind and apperent wind increses and than fun begins. If you expect winds to rise in few hours reef main sail and use one engine to maintain your speed and you are ready than. Another thing is jibing in strong winds. I do like this. Start engines and go full throthle under autopilot. Tension main sheet a lot. Use sailing gloves. Than put main traveler sheet 2x around winch. Once u are surfing down the wave use autopilot to jibe and once the sail goes to other side realese travel sheet to avoid bang. If you manage to press autopilot 10 deg downwind at same time eaven better. You can also put traveler in the middle before doing it.
