Responsibility is always with the company who sells the finished product/system , not the one that delivers components. The blame is definitely on Lagoon for buying lousy components to save money. Their quality assurance system seems to need a lot of improvement. I am sure that on a Selden rigg these kind of problems wouldn’t occur.

Are the rigging hardware common to lagoons or do all of the new boats tend to have these types of issues? Loved the humor in this one video.

Do the problems concerning the ropes happen on lagoon 42? Getting one in a couple months time. If the problems are there, what solutions do you reccomend?
@IgorStropnik
@IgorStropnik 2 жыл бұрын
No problem with furler rope on 42. Also less problem with main halyard as sail is smaller. On main you can unlock the pulley so it rotates but than rope will twist eventually and make trouble. You can also reef more in strong winds as that is when forces are big and rope gets damaged.

Any critical control systems on an aircraft will have their fasteners lock wired or a split pin (Stainless steel must be used for longevity)! Thread lock is not a reliable solution long term! So the pulley bolts should have split pins or lock wire I think, as for Gaffa tape, it will do for the next 24hrs but don't rely on it please! I've worked on planes 50 years old and the split pins have never failed, Ailerons, flaps, throttle linkages etc, all were perfectly serviceable after many years service. Do you have detailed maintenance logs with times, hours etc and periodical inspections carried out and signed off on these boats? The engines having a 50 hr service is in line with aviation requirements too interestingly? 50 hrs is the service interval for basic maintenance, then the 100 hr is a bit more involved, and then the annual is close to a full strip and inspect/replace etc! I will send you an email soon as it would be an experience to get a chance to crew on one these trips, I am sure I would never forget a winter passage across the Bay of Biscay! You were really lucky with weather on this one! Hopefully one day the laws of probability will put it together👍 One trivia point, the Sagres cape is named after the beer Sagres, or is it the other way round😁😁 There's two main beers in Portugal, Sagres and Super Bock, my partner has family there and we have been told Super Bock is the Portuguese version of Fosters, Sagres is more your Stella Artois? Whichever it is, it's a good excuse to sample the stuff and then comment from a position of knowledge! I really liked the interaction you had going with Terry, he seems like the type of sailor I would enjoy spending a few hours and whiskey's with! Only complaint I have is "Famous Grouse" who drinks bottom shelf whiskey and advertises it? I mean for a few pounds more you could have at least got a Talisker or Laphroaig? Or am I a bit of a whisky snob? Love the videos and safe passage for the rest of the trip👍👍
@IgorStropnik
@IgorStropnik 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks 🍻We don’t do much official logs of maintenance except engine. Sagres beer…have to try it..maybe drink it on Sagres cape😊 It was the best whiskey we could get in that store and is much better than warm milk😊
@rogerblackwood8815
@rogerblackwood8815 2 жыл бұрын
@@IgorStropnik You win for sure with the warm milk argument😁😁 The thought of it is not good, give me any whisky before that please🥃🥃👍👍 Have you sailed the Hebrides? I'm not sure which whiskies you prefer, but for me it's Laphroaig and Ardbeg, both distilleries are a short walk from Port Ellen on Islay, which I have to say is in some of the best sailing areas of the UK! Fantastic scenery and whisky and the Aberdeen Angus Steaks are pretty good too! Maybe we could do a crew change there👍👍

@rogerblackwood8815
@rogerblackwood8815 2 жыл бұрын
@@IgorStropnik The weather isn't the problem in the summer, it is the Midges, small Mosquito type bugs in the millions! Google will tell you all about Scottish Midges! Obviously you are an experienced sailor, but a small boat around the Hebrides needs careful planning with the tides that rip through there😲😲 I think I have heard of 12Kt currents or more around the Pentland Firth?
