Late to the party. Glad everything is working for you. I have done several VFD installations, mostly on metal lathes. I just did one on a 14in Jet wood lathe with Reeves drive which was binding. This required upgrading to 3 phase motor and TECO VFD. TECO manual has all the technical information for programming the VFD and motor. My friends shop only has 120V AC so had to order the VFD for 120C AC input and 240V AC 3 phase output. My friend now has a tachometer with ON/OFF and FWD/REV in a separate box from the VFD mounted for easy access from the front. Min and Max Frequency are typically configured as the user desires. If the torque is insufficient at low frequency, you may need to increase the minimum frequency. My friend is now happy that he has digital variable speed control and new REV function. The fan for the VFD is another parameter. It seems to be presently set to run when the VFD has power. You can should be able to change this to only turn on the fan when the internal temperature sensor reaches a pre-determined set point to turn on the fan. Dave.

Bonsoir Rob, good challenge to put this VFD. Just a precaution with low speed, do not run below 200 rpm for more than 2 minutes because the motor doesn't have sufficient ventilation. A+

I don’t usually run at too low a speed, just interesting that it is possible now. I imagine with no significant load on it at low speed the motor wouldnt heat up too much anyway. Thanks for watching

Congratulations on finally getting your lathe fixed. I’m glad you shared this journey with us because I have a Laguna lathe (1524) myself.

Thanks for watching, its been a journey, it would be very intimidating for someone that isnt an electrician, but hopefully this helps others. I feel that Laguna should offer a more affordable solution but they didnt!!!

How exciting! Nothing worse than your primary piece of equipment being down. I suspect you can change that brake parameter as well if you want to. But that wasn’t half bad as it was. Anyway, congratulations on getting your lathe back up and running as you expect it to.

I am super excited and happy to have it back in action, as far as the brake goes its working fine. Cheers

so glad to see it worked out! my vfd conversion is still underway, currently i'm doing the permanent wiring in a nema 1 enclosure. i had to figure out the programming myself but that part is done. i'll send a pic to you on facebook. i will have some mechanical work to do getting the motor and belt drive set up

Yea i am super happy that it is working, i hated the idea that it was going to cost me $1000, honestly im not impressed by Lagunas services post purchase. They told me the vfd that was on my lathe was discontinued later in 2020, i wonder why!!!

Good job Rob. Those parrot meters can be a bit troublesome ; ). Are you using a DeWalt chuck on your Ryobi drill driver?
