Oh that's a great idea, Gary. I've been using the indexing knobs to lock it, but I don't like using those since that's really not what they're for. I'm afraid it will eventually damage those holes. Thanks for the tip. 👍
@ThePapa1947
@ThePapa1947 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mike. For sure do not use the indexing pin. I did not like holding the red button in so came up with this. I even got a hold of Laguna and ask why they could not have a locking system. My fix is very simple for sure.

Well Rod I knew you would notice. Let me tell you I was in awe during the whole turning of that piece. Well I just put finish on the bottom a hour ago. And the bottom looked delicious. This has to be the prettiest piece of wood I have ever done. It felt like a gift to be able to expose the grain inside. Another chunk that I just wasn't sure about. I can have it ready for Friday and I want to. I had something else read to load but it can wait. Thanks for watching brother. Gary

Brilliant, Gary! I hope this video gets a million views, it deserves it. Something so simple you would think Laguna would have included it. You should see if you can send them the link. They might feature the video on their site. Great job thinking outside the box! Phil

Thank you Huw, I thought it was silly not to have a spindle lock other than holding the button in. So I fixed that. I have had people say having a locking spindle is not necessary. But I find it very handy. Hwyl, Gary

You are welcome Clint. I am in Garden Home which is next to Beaverton. Did you have any trouble with the banjo locking down? What ever they painted the hidden shaft with is to slick. I scuffed it up with 120 grit and that fixed the problem. Gary

Thank you Scott I would have a hard time getting by without it. Some people claim you do not need a spindle lock but it sure helps getting a chuck off. Or when putting a blank on a worm screw. But I am sure you know all of that. I considered getting the 2436 as it would not have taken up anymore foot print. It is a dandy! Thanks for watching, Gary

Thank You, Gary. Can you tell me where you bought the magnets AND their strength? I purchased several different magnets but none of them are strong enough to keep the button in on my 18/36. I asked Laguna what pressure the button needs to be depressed. Unfortunately they did not have an answer. Thanks again, Al.

Hi Al, This is the size I use. www.ebay.com/itm/374530091966 You may be able to find them on Amazon. We had a supplier at work where we got them. We used them for tooling that we built. Hope this helps, Gary

@ThePapa1947
@ThePapa1947 Жыл бұрын
I used the Rare Earth magnets. You can hardly get two of those apart when stuck together. Funny I just got a pack from Amazon. These are very thin and I will use them on a laser machine to hold thin pieces down. For the spindle lock I would use 1/2X1/2" magnets. Best of luck, Gary

You are welcome. I did not feel like drilling holes in a casting. You could end up on a grain line of the metal and cause a crack. Metal has grain based on how it hardens after cast. The magnets solved that issue. Thanks for watching and commenting. Gary

@davidaion 5 жыл бұрын
Can you share the specs on the magnets? Where did you get them and what size?
@ThePapa1947
@ThePapa1947 5 жыл бұрын
David they are rare earth magnets and the ones I used are 1/2 x 1/2 inch and they are something we used at work.Pretty sure they got them at a local hardware store or one of out tool suppliers. I have been retired about 7 years or I would ask. But I know that Home Depot carries rare earth magnets. Maybe not 1/2 thick but you could stack them to get what ever you need.Harbor Freight also has some of the rare earth magnets. I have used them to get the chuck key handy as well. If you check my video on using a Digital angle finder for your grinder you will see how I use the magnets in a zip bag to collect the grindings coming off your wheels. Thanks again, Gary

None that know of. Most VFD's will shut down if they sense too heavy of a load. I know mine does as I have done it a couple of times. Same thing on my Bridgeport CNC.
