After owning a Laguna REVO 18/36 for a while, I have added some shop made tooling and a couple of mods.

Great video and ideas! I used a magnet for the spindle lock until I left it on at the end of the day and it magnetized my tool rest.

Great DIY improvements, must be nice to have access to a machine shop.

Great info! Your next video must be advice on “finding a buddy with a completely stocked metal shop”!

Nice addition to the shop George! And a great video too😀

Thanks! How's the fly fishing reel project coming along?
@TXManka5 жыл бұрын
Excellent! I finished the two reels just in time for Christmas. I’ll make at least one more for myself too but won’t start that for a few weeks. I really like the lathe tool you made in the video that has the clamp like a dial indicator stand. Did you create any plans for it or just “freestyle” it? All the tools you built in the video looked great.

@@TXManka Just dug through the junk to see what material I had. I found some 1-1/2 pipe (1.90" OD) with a 0.3" wall. I don't know where I got it. but it worked well.

Those additions are great...I have the same lathe and could use some of them!

George. nice review.... Question for you about the change you made to the tailstock lockdown handle from backside to front... I made the same change and now i cannot get it to lockdown unless i use a big 1-1/16" wrench from below. ...Is there a key in the innards of the lockdown that i have left out or lost...I have been adjusting and readjusting the lockdown nut below ....I just am not able to get it to lockdown tight enuff unless i wrench it down from below... what do you smart guys out there think????? As an old toolmaker / moldmaker I am getting ready to add a wood lathe to my tool aresonal as a hobby. I will be retiring soon and the numerous turning videos have me hooked on giving this creative outlet a try. I have been apprehensive of buying a Laguna because of so many poor reviews. But the testimony of a brother who is familiar with metal working principles is good enough for me. Thanks for the positive spin on Laguna! Have you ever considered marketing your innovations? There are a lot of turners out there who would love to add these to there lathes.

Marketing innovations, sounds like a job. I had one once, didn't care much for it.

Great video. Subscribed. I will be looking at a new lathe in the foreseeable future and wondering if you’ve had any trouble with this one in the past 4 years.

George, Thanks for the video. I wanted to know if you would show a breakdown of the carving tool rest with chuck threads. I would like to see how it works.

I would be interested in that too

George, do you sell the carving mounts?

Do you sell any of these additions? I'd love to get the live center heads and the extra threaded head for dual sided chuck use. Send em my way!! haha

Did you ever consider selling some of the components you have made as demonstrated. Well done

Do you make and sell your tool rest? I sure like your bowl rest.

Hi George that video where you saw someone using a bowl and magnets may have been mine. I put that video up Dec 2018. You have some great additions you have made for your lathe. I like them all. I feel the same way about the bed protector when changing the chuck. I also have a metal lathe and have used one for years so it becomes habit to have a board handy to lay under. I make all kinds of parts and adapters for my tools. I also have a Bridgeport CNC milling machine so it is hard not to want to make improvements. Nice idea moving locking handle on the tailstock. Most people seem to not mount the bracket but I use mine for a place to put my camera. I use a magnetic base with a special mount for the camera. That hole through the tailstock is also used for a draw bolt when using a drill chuck. Helps to keep it from spinning. Thanks for the video it was great and got me thinking more about what else I can do to mine. I have a lot of woodturning videos up if your interested. Gary

You're right! That was your video I saw. Sounds like we have many of the same afflictions.

Yes it would seem that way. After retiring it came me the time to make lots of things I always wanted to. I made a 4th axis for the smaller mill that I did all of the cnc build on. It was a small manual mill. I think the Laguna makes a nice Lathe. I had issues with the banjo handle springing back up after locking down. Laguna sent a new one but while I waited for it I found that anodizing on the shaft was to slick to grip so I sanded on it and now it works fine. I returned the new one they sent me. I did buy a live center with 1"X8 thread for the lathe I used to have. But I still have chucks that fit it. I do plan on making similar tips like you did for the live center. Did you turn them on your lathe or use a tap? Thanks, Gary
@makerspace5335 жыл бұрын
I cut the thread with a 3/4-10 tap. It's a normal UNC size.
@ThePapa19475 жыл бұрын
Thanks George I assumed you probably did. Then mounting it on a shaft with those threads in the metal lathe to create the shape and you can make what you want. Thanks I plan on doing just that.

U can order those chucks to tighten either way. Look at the arrow around the chuck key hole.

George: Was wondering if you are will the G code for the spindle lock device. I presume it was 3D printed. I have a 3D printer just not very good at design. Complete understand if it not available.
@makerspace5335 жыл бұрын
No, it was sheet acrylic cut on a laser.

George. Would you be interested in making some of you lathe accessories to sell me ? I like the spindle and take stock covers

love the lathe....one thing is for sure.... A black colored lathe sure does show the dust..... Just like a black car shows when it needs washing more than a white car.... JMTC mlyle

Instead of copying things why don’t you support the inventors and manufacturers?
