Are you aware of the fact that you registered the beginning of the end of Lahaina splendor? In your video you show all the elements that led to the tragedy: the extreme winds, the fire spreading right behind you, and the lack of evacuation procedures to allow for the cars to use both sides of the road to leave the city. Yours is one of the most important documentaries on this tragedy.

Now it is proven that it was all planned. Iwas no wildfire, but DEW. Auxiliary services were blocked by FEMA, there was no water for the firefighters to quench the fire and the sirens were not switched on. There are witnesses Who saw, that people who tried to escape the fire by car were hindered by the police by blocking roads. How come, the rich people's houses and their properties were not burnt down? 15 minutes cities are planned.

This footage will prove the Hawaiian Electric caused the fire. Owned by Black Rock and Vanguard this was all planned by these sinister companies. Sue them to ground for millions upon millions and may they feel the rage of all those innocent lives lost. This is a very ominous video. The last moments of so much of the town, when people were making life or death decisions about where to go or stay, which route to evacuate by. It's hard to imagine how frustrating it would be to be in that line of cars that was not moving. It's also hard to understand why there weren't sirens blaring during this video. The disaster was already underway.

Some are saying that due to power outages, cell tower outages all happening so quickly that even though alerts were going out, without power or cell power, so many never knew what was coming. I am amazed that something as important as sirens for fire or tsunamis etc were dependent on power, there should be back up batteries or solar or whatever so these can operate as long as possible. I agree that authorities should have at least been driving around with bullhorns saying get out now, but we never will know how many lives could have been saved if more had been done quickly.

Apparently there are only 65 firefighters for Maui County, which includes Lana’i and Molokai. I wasn’t clear if that is 65 total or 65 on duty at the time? My educated guess is 65 total. I have visited Maui, Lahaina and Front Street many, many times over the years, and I have witnessed brush fires burning in the general area. There was no possible way to fight that fire even if all 65 personnel were on duty and staged. The winds caused by weather combined by fire created winds conspired to form an unimaginable horror. Add rickety power poles that snapped and dropped live wires into the mix and that community had zero chance of surviving the firestorm. So sad. Update: 279 total personnel - 65 on duty over 3 islands at the time of the fire.

Three things stood out to me while watching this video: 1. The utter lack of fire personnel rushing to put out the fires. There were nowhere to be found! 2. The orderly way that ALL the drivers (except one!) waited their turns stuck in traffic while the fire raged behing them, and as we know, sadly, would soon overcome many of them. Police shouldn't have been driving down the opposite way. They should have been way ahead encouraging drivers to drive on the opposite side of the road to facilitate the exit and evacuation. 3. The complete naivete of the videographer, so casually walking around, seemingly unawares that embers could engulf everything around him in an instant.

answer in #2 first......I think thats how some drivers and occupants died......per what I heard online, and thru a client/friend who knows.....those folks probably assumed that zipping up their windows tight, wont let the heat and flames engulf them......but sad to say, their fuel lines/engine and gas tank were accesible because they are outside, making the vehicle into a bomb......thus why the conditions of the vehicles are fully destroyed. answer in #1.......they had 2 brush fires going on.......dont see why they didnt use a dozer or similar to make fire breaks and head to Lahaina ASAP!!! HELL!!! if there were only 2 homes in front of that other brush fire, I would say heck with it and relocate to Lahaina and at LEAST a company gave it their best!

SCARY so VERY sad for the loss of life and history here. WE here in my county in FL the local people that live HERE in FL in 1998 said NEVER again. Our powerlines are buried. Prescribed burns pretty much every month sometimes weekly in off season. Our hurricane season runs from June to Nov. Tree trimming weekly. THIS neighborhood had a close call in 2018. WHY was something NOT DONE ???? So very sad Have seen so many blaming the fedreal government for this. The federal government does NOT live here. They need to elect LOCAL that LIVE here and if they don't listen to them, elect someone that will. Oh and the other blame non native grass that was planted for cows by ranchers in the 1800s that has now taken over the island. BURN IT IN OFF SEASON >THIS should have NEVER happened period !!!!

Lahaina is a small town with only 12,000 people. Small towns typically have small police forces. During an emergency like this the 911 center is overwhelmed by people calling. Cops are also busy answering emergency calls of invalids who need help leaving their homes. Normally most small towns depend on mutual aid assistance coming in to help them from neighboring larger cities, county agencies or the state police. Apparently that may not have happened in this case.

Sometimes you shouldn't need to be warned. Common sense should kick in. But unfortunately, when you see a large fire a couple blocks away, people tend to think the fire trucks are there and they're gonna put it out. But in this case, the fire was huge, covering miles and the fireman couldn't be everywhere.

My wife and I were in the firestorm of 2020's LMU Complex fire. We had a little more time than our neighbors and were able to evacuate. The fire stopped just 100 yards from our house. A lot of our neighbors lost everything. A few lost their lives. My wife's father's house burned down in the 2017 Tubbs Firestorm. His widow escaped with just the clothes she had on. South Lake Tahoe truly had a near miss a couple of years ago. This is what happens. Escape routes in at least one direction will be cut off to start, eventually all are lost. Electricity, running water, and communications go down. It really doesn't take long in dry high winds. Throw in the dense, old housing, Lahaina didn't have a chance once it started. Within the time frame of the this video, you can see just how fast it spread. Nearly every building was already on fire in just 10 minutes or so. Firestorms are just awful.

Here in CA we have wildfires every year and we would have been told to evacuate long before the smoke arrived. It's devestating.

@SKOLDED hmmm. I dont think it was because of the filming. How many people were in there homes or waiting for notice too late. If anything, I think people were just not warned and didn't believe they were in that much danger. I get fires behind my house on the mountain every year. They shut off our electricity when it happens and warn us to be ready. I do family drills because I'm a prepper. Most people rely on others and the government and this is an unfortunate example of that.

Everyone criticizes us here in California but I’ll tell you what, we would have had our cars packed and been long gone before this town burned down. The lack of urgency and lack of a quick response is truly sad. I’ve lived through several wildfires in Northern California and the response is swift and the evacuation orders are given as soon as a threat to the public is determined. It appears none of this happened in this case, and combined with the limited escape routes, these people were dealt an awful hand. R.I.P. to the victims and hopefully the survivors can rebuild and the authorities learn some lessons that fire danger can’t be taken with such a casual attitude

Super gnarly , I used to live in a small jungle right behind you when the video starts, they sold it years ago and it was just all parking after. In that shop to his right was lots of old birds, they had an African grey that was pretty old. This is heartbreaking, I remember how front street smelled and the energy of being In Lahaina which was my home for a few years and my favorite place on Maui. From the Wharf to Kahuna Kebobs to Livewire for a coffee and internet then down the road to kaanapali to jump black rock and backside or bring the tray to bodysurf, it was the most special place on earth to me at that moment in time and in the back of my mind I thought it would always be there Looks like it escalated super fast beyond this point and got dark in addition to all the smoke and fire which made it harder for both locals and tourists to navigate their way out, truly gut wrenching that so many didn’t make it out. There are truly no words to honestly express the loss. 😢 Godspeed to all.

Thank you for showing us what things were like on that day. The Hawaii Governor reports that the fire was moving at a mile a minute. So distressing to see this "before" video and then to see the "after" videos. This was a confluence of factors (low humidity, powerful winds, downed power lines and downed cell towers, downed phone lines, super dry fuel, time of the fire) which all conspired to create a crisis never experienced before on the islands. It is hard to plan for something that has never happened before. Hawaii was well prepared for flooding, tsunami, and hurricanes, but not wildfire moving at lightning speed. Please do not try and play the blame game. Many of the people responding have also lost family, friends, and property. Please do not suck what little energy they have left by pointing fingers and trying to lay blame.
