I went with my family in the early 80s to Maui for a week and we went to Lahaina a couple of times and we just loved it there. I didn’t get to go back until 2018 this time with my husband for our 25th anniversary. Being back in Lahaina brought back sweet memories when I was there with my family. I was happy to recognize most of it and I could see there was other changes too. My heart breaks for what happened to this amazing mighty little town, the loss of lives and homes. But I’m so glad I met a lot of the locals who work at their shops and restaurants. Such good and kind people. I love that they each took the time to talk with me. I know they do that with all the tourists and locals, it’s great that the people in Hawaiian love to talk! Lol. I met a few from near where I grew up or just a few hours away from where I live. I knew this lady who would make handmade glass art jewelry and she was from Northern California, she sold her beautiful pieces only a few local gift shops and one of the shops in Lahaina! I have a couple of her art glass jewelry pieces still. It’s awesome that the locals are taking great care of the people who lost their homes and will a safe place to sleep and be provided food and other things they need. 🩷

Yes, very similar to Paradise. We lost our home there. One big difference is that Paradise did not lose a huge tourist industry and the huge money it generates. It's been almost 5 years since the Camp Fire of 2018 in Paradise. We are still dealing with the aftermath from that. It will be another 15 years before Paradise makes a real recovery. Lahaina and it's residents will need 20 years to recover from this horrible event.

My heart is with you all from the coast of California. I’m ashamed to say I didn’t know the history behind the city and how the central government of indigenous royalty was run there. It’s sad to get to know it from this tragedy but I hope that as Lahaina rebuilds there is continued support and attention given to the community there. ❤

The similarities to the paradise fire is the same. Cars melting yet 10 feet away there’s a tree with its green leaves still standing if any of you think that’s natural you need to start doing some research. Something is not gonna completely turn into ashes or meltdown right next to anything else, and it not be affected

I am heartbroken for the people of Maui….I have so much compassion for those who have lost everything. I lost everything in a California wildfire a couple of years ago and it was a surreal experience. If anyone needs to talk about it and/or needs some guidance I am here for you. I understand. The terror one feels when this happens to you will never be understood by someone who has never lost everything. Equivalent of losing a child. God Bless you all. Your in my thoughts and prayers

Why be so rude and arrogant to someone you don't even know, who actually showed interest in what you were saying and wanted to understand where you got this from? Why even comment anything if you are this rude back to people who respond to your comment.

@wallymcguire2033 Жыл бұрын
Not really. Wildfires move quickly and if something isn’t easily combustible, it won’t catch fire. Palm trees have a very hardy trunk so one standing on its own wouldn’t be affected. If it was right beside something that was burning for an extended period of time and flames were against it, it would eventually show some signs of charring. But not standalone trees.

The damages remind me of Santa Rosa Fires and a Paradise Fires in California. Noticed the areas that were badly damaged were the older communities with old infrastructure. The areas with large hotels were not affected. I understand the that the ingredients for the fire was drought, low humidity, and wind but the physics of this “wildfire” cannot possibly destroy those buildings. Unless it was man-made fire. This type of fire would connect to the DEW. Hawaii always had the moment of droughts, low humidity and high winds over the past years and all of the sudden this “wildfire” engulfs a local town? Hope those locals will rebound and start a new life.

Astonishing! Hurricane winds. This happened to my home town, too. A few years back. Santa Rosa was devastated with a wild fire blowing through! We couldn't foresee that! It was so strange because it wasn't rural.
@dogloverjb6873 Жыл бұрын
Until we address the actual cause of this fire, we will continue to have them. Fire started in the upper grass lands up on the hillside where there are no electrical lines . It was NOT started by fallen electrical lines. The fire then moved down to the business/residential areas near the ocean front destoying everything in it's path due to high winds and dry conditions. Look at any area map that shows where the actual fire started. Canyon/brush/ rural homeless camps are a major cause of fires... San Diego is plagued with fires in the canyons occupied by the homeless. We had a 200 acre fire just yesterday that got close to homes, started at a homeless camp. But no one wants to address the big white elephant in the room. So sorry for all affected by these fires.
