San Pedro La Laguna is nice. I was there about 6 weeks over two trips end of June to beginning of July both times. End of June is the town Religious and fiesta celebrations. I was learning Spanish in a school and living with a family up the hill. Sometimes, after drinking in my favourite bar next to the lake, I needed to hire a tuk-tuk (taxi service) at a cost of US$0.50 per person(yes, the price is per person with sharing the bench at times) to climb the steep hill and go home.

Thanks for great video Gabe of wonderful San Pedro! It is just what I hoped it would look like with a busy market full of pleasant locals versus tourists :) Looks like you'll be getting good exercise along with good nutrition.

My wife and I made this trip in January of 2015. We were invited by friends who have been a couple times. This trip is one of the greatest experiences of my 47 year old life. We are going again for sure, but need to brush up on our Spanish. We first stayed in Antigua for a few nights then San Marcos for 4 nights.

37parman. could you feel ok retiring there? I'm your age and American.
@37parman
@37parman 7 жыл бұрын
I would definitely feel okay to retire there. However, I would stay near the touristy areas because there is definitely a police presence. They don't want to lose tourism to bad PR about crime so they beef up police in those areas. I will say that Guatemala City was a bit scary as we rode through in a cab. There were guards holding shotguns at every convenience store we passed by. It is a very poor country so I'm sure that petty theft is common. For the most part, they are a very hard working and nice people just trying to get by.

This is one of your older videos, so don't know if you'll even see this comment. Could have viewed much more of this area. So interesting and beautiful. On several of your videos I noticed older, totally white hair people, even in Machu Picchu (which I'm sure they did not hike...but still). It is encouraging to note that people of all ages can enjoy many of the places you have traveled! BTW: I went to my most favorite online bookstore (Thriftbooks.com) where all of your books were out of stock! I guess when people buy them they never let go!!!

Thanks Andi, if you wanted to see some more videos of mine from that area, you can do a search on my channel for the word "Atitlan" and it will bring up other videos from there. Here's a link: kzbin.infosearch?query=atitlan As for the books, truth is they probably aren't in stock just because they aren't widely distributed. I've only sold a few hundred copies or so of each my books, so they aren't big sellers. They should be available on Amazon though, links are always below every video.

I will purchase 3 of your books on Amazon (I was able to sample them and they were very interesting). All the reviews for your books that I researched were 5 stars except for 1 review and that review was 3 stars but the comments were all positive - so I think that person meant to make it a 5 star as well! I was wondering how your parents feel about your travels? Do they follow you regularly and are they proud of you? I would be proud of my kids for being as free thinking and as wise as you are. Are your parents in any of your videos?

Here are a couple of videos with my dad: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mH6mdqJrhKp4ers kzbin.info/www/bejne/mIXPn4Gsrr2nnLc I don't think I have any with my mom, but I should because she's an avid traveler even now at 69. She just went on a bus trip around eastern Europe. So yeah they're cool with the traveling, especially now that I'm making a living from it.

How much was the juice? what was the store called? located??
@GabrielTravelerVideos
@GabrielTravelerVideos 8 жыл бұрын
The juice place was called D'Juice Girls and I think the large cup of juice was $1.50. It's right on the main street in San Pedro down by the lake, if you walk north from the center of town alongside the lake.

Dan Schlinz Hey Dan, yeah that's a good idea actually, plus Antigua is a nice spot to visit. It depends on one's arrival time, if arriving late then Antigua is only about an hour away so good spot to shoot for, better than staying in G. City.
