Brilliant account of your day Graham. That Buttermere ridge has to be one of our favorites and I can see it holds a special place in your heart. It's amazing how emotional one can feel whilst out in our beautiful mountains!! What an amazing achievement by Dave! Just to see a 75 year old man completing all the fells is amazing but then he's had all that to deal with too, I can see why he's your hero!

Moores, Fells & Mountains. Thanks appreciate the comment. Today that 78 year old and 3 more of us are about to embark on the 74 mile Cumbria Way. He is a great man and currently fitter than the rest of us Fat Blokes lol. Thanks again.

I’ve been watching your videos for a couple of years now (sorry, only just subscribed!) but thanks very much for the great inspiration and informative videos- I’ve only done 37 Wainwright’s (since I started counting last June - have done many more in my youth!) it’s all well and good studying the maps but to see the routes and in such great video action is fantastic- thank you! And boy is Dave a true hero - #Legend!!

I somehow got linked to your page after subscribing to Leona & Chris Pye's channel and have spent much of Sunday afternoon glued to some of yours with this being the last (for now) and one i did in similar conditions back in July 17. Just about to watch the "final" and have to say what a great effort by Dave and yourselves for making it all possible.....great effort and what an inspiration Dave is to anyone having a go at the 214 including myself. Cheers Paul

Thank you Paul. Chris and Leona are Fat Boys on Tour members and we are guilty of inspiring them to walk in the Lake District. We link to them as well as we enjoy their videos especially with the kids. Thank you for your kind comments and we are very glad you enjoy the exploits if 77 year old Dave who is definitely making the most of a third chance at life having survived Cancer twice now. An inspiration to us all indeed. Cheers Paul

Hello I really want to do this but a little nervous of the route... I've been told this one you have done is best for getting up red pike. I'm nervous about full hands and feet scrambling can you tell me how much is?
@FatBoysonTourHikingVideos
@FatBoysonTourHikingVideos 6 ай бұрын
If you are doing the same route as in this video, then I do not recall any difficulties and remind you that Dave Galloway did this in his 70's. Nothing to be nervous about from memory. However, sadly I don't you, so I'm unaware of your fitness or your abilities. All I can tell you is if the weather is good to you, the views are amazing and it will be worth the effort

We go compact David choosing cameras with large zooms, Davy G for example has a Nikon Coolpix S7000 with 20x zoom and I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ70 with a 24x zoom. In 2017 our video footage will be shot on an action camera with a better frame rates, in my case I have asked Santa for a GO-PRO 5 Black. I have held back before because of the lack of a view screen but the 5 has one as standard. All pictures have been taken on my various phone's' as well, currently I am using my Android phone a Samsung 7 edge, with the settings on wide screen 16:9 which reduces the pixels but is better for HD TV and PC screens. A mistake a lot of people make when using phones is to hold them upright, you should always take your pictures holding the camera length wise. I have not seen a TV or PC screen yet that is longer top to bottom than left to right. Hope this helps, cheers Graham

Graham do you use a gps on your trips. I'm can follow a map and compass and many off the routes around the lakes are very clear but my concern is when the cloud comes down and the routes aren't so clear. I'm going to be walking on my own and want to make it as safe and enjoyable as possible.
@FatBoysonTourHikingVideos

Answer yes to that. I create a map and route card with waypoints for use with my Garmin Dakota 20 GPS. I also plot the route on Memory Map and transfer the overlay of the route to my phone where I also have the Memory Map App and 1:25 OS Full GT Britain Map. Coupled with the waterproof OS maps and a compass of course. I keep all the route cards for the walks, and these are available to anyone who would find them useful. Cheers for your comment and question. See you out there

I'v had another cracking evening watching your videos. Having left England eighteen years ago to live abroad I felt a bit cut off from the lakes where I had so many good times with mates at various times starting in the early 70s until the early 90s . Your videos have brought back a lot of memories . How is Dave keepng ? Is he well now? Thanks for the memories Graham !

+Mudanzas Absolutely my friend, Dave is not off the hook instead of Back Packing the route we are going to accommodate him by using a Sherpa company in 2016, expensive but hey it's Dave !! Outlying fells are on the way, though my video camera broke :(

Awww! Thanks Graham! Being eccentric, I have climbed ( walked up ) Allen Crags 2575ft? from Wasdale Head with my father. It has a lovely summit top, but it was drizzle and mist when we were on its summit. I have climbed a handful, well more, of other fells but I can't compete with you lads! I am very obese now and can hardly walk 50 yards without getting out of breath but I have had happy days on mountains. I always like remote, quite, lesser regarded rounded tops, to the likes of Sca Fell Pike and Hellvelyn. I would I am sure prefer Mungrisdale Common to Blencathra. The older guy looks lovely! I am sure you are both really nice men! Enjoy Spring! - Mike.

Make a note as you watch the start, how they have devastated the trees around Bowness Knott and Brown how. If you have viewed previous video's from us you will have noted other deforestation projects that make the Lake District look like desolate wastelands. At the end of this you will see as we are at the summits and as we drop at the end the wonderful views with the glorious trees and the wild life within. In my opinion we need to stop this destruction from happening somehow, we think it is terrible. If there is a group out there against this let us know. If your part of a institution such as the Forestry commission or a governing body who have agreed and sanctioned this, please message us and explain why this is good for the Lakes and I promise we will listen with open minds to reason and logic. We remember something on TV a while back about returning it to 'The Way it was' however we have scoured the internet and can find no reference at all.

I live on the edge of the lake District, and am also infuriated by the continuous growing and felling of pines. These were lovely deciduous woodlands you could walk among when I was a teenager. Now they are scarred mountains, and the branches stripped from the main trunks make it impossible to walk there again. I'm sure someone has a reason somewhere. But it looks dreadful. I completely agree with you.

@@FatBoysonTourHikingVideos - I bought a drone this year, and can't wait for nice weather. As soon as it comes, I'm up the mountains in a flash to film. I'm nearly 60, and this summer has been one of the best of my life. Yes - I am really lucky to live here. I don't take it for granted at all. Keep pinching myself. We love having you here too!
