Took another fishing trip out to lake Gregory regional park located in Crestline California. This trip was so far the best trip of the year being able to catch several large rainbow trout and a couple lightning trout as well. The lake was stocked by the Calaveras trout farm.

@@ExploreNaturesCatch After a 30 minute kick into that heavy wind to get across the lake to my car and also experiencing leg cramps, I took the next day off. I did take a friend new to trout fishing to Gregory this past Sunday and caught 20 in about 3hrs in the south cove (released 10). The fish have spread out nicely since the stocking by the boat dock. The new operators are doing a great job improving Gregory! I bought an annual pass.

Anybody a fan of "King of the Hill"? There was an episode where the crew had a 100% effective fish bait for catching local trout. It was so good that fish were jumping into the little boat. It turns out that the "secret" bait was "Rock Cocaine" which the fish had become addicted to. Funny episode (IMHO anyway).

I put either a 1/32 oz or 1/16 oz ball jig head on it and work the lure like a mini jig. Slow retrieve with a steady bounce with the tip of the rod. Thanks for watching!

Hey Monica! Thanks for watching! Yes you do need a CA fishing license and also a fishing permit which you can purchase on their website or at the lake. Thanks for the advice for my leg cramps! It’s happens to me pretty much every time I go out on my float tube. I’m not too sure about the wheelchair accessible spots but there are 2 parking lots that would probably be the best bet to access the lake. Nice fish!!! 😃👍🏼 This is exactly what I need right now. Some much needed rest and relaxation. Glad to see someone out there catching those monster trout. I just love the sound of ripping line from the spool. Then you see this huge fish jump completely out of the water in the distant, and you already know it’s fish on!!!! 😃 Yeah, those leg cramps are the reason I don’t float in a tube anymore. I tried it once, and that was it for me. I’m sure it has to do with preconditioning with leg and cardio exercises to get into shape before hand. I’d rather use a kayak or even a small dingy and a small motors to get after those trout. Thanks for posting and keep those lines tight 🤙🏽 🍺

I have a bad habit of not drinking enough fluids while I'm out there too. I was actually looking into an inflatable boat to test out so i don't have to kick around the lake all the time. @@ExploreNaturesCatch With regards to those cramps, just make sure to take plenty of Extra Extra Strength Tiger Balm or Ben Gay muscle rub. This will definitely help with those legs cramps. Taking a shower or sitting in a tub will definitely help or even a deep leg massage. Check out a small Livingston dingy boat. It’s a very safe boat. I know, because I grew up with one. Ours was 12 foot with a 20 horse Merc from back in the day, 80’s circa. They’re great boats, safe - never sinks, and never tip over, and they do the job. Check it out, as a suggestion.

@zzww I don’t know where your comment went but I added the bobber because it got a little windy and I wanted to get more distance in my cast. Also because I wanted to control the depth of the minnow I was using. Most of the fish seemed to be around 2-3 ft down from the top. I was watching the bobber but at the same time I was still twitching the rod to get some action on the minnow. Hope that helps and I hope you see this.

Thank you for watching! I actually had a big Gatorade with me that day but it just wasn’t enough. Usually when I have pedialyte it helps out a lot, I just happened to leave it in the car. Gregory has been great the past couple times I’ve went. I also saw a few post a couple days ago that they were still catching. I don’t think they stocked this week this. The past 2 times I went they jus happened to be stocking those weeks. Good luck out there!

Thanks for watching Kevin. Depending on the depth, I let the minnow sink down a little then I would slightly twitch/bounce the rod tip on the retrieve. At times I would double twitch the rod tip let it sink for a half second and repeat as well. Most often I am just steady twitching the rod tip the whole way back. Good luck brotha

Thank you! It was definitely an epic day of fishing. I just get lucky sometimes thats all 😅. I'm going to be heading up for the opener at the end of April. Most of lakes in the mammoth area might be hard to access on opening day. Every time i've headed up on the opener the road is usually closed off heading into lake Mary. Not sure how it will be this year but we shall see. There are plenty of other lakes nearby to fish though. I usually like to head out there early on in the season then in the fall. The summer months get a little too crowded for my liking.

@@capinv2373 Thank you for watching. I’m pretty sure the road will be closed to lake Mary because it usually is around that time. I do hope it’s open though. The lakes in the June lake loop should be good to go. Silver lake has easy access to the lake as well as gull lake right in the front next to the play ground. There is also a restroom near by at gull. Crowley is pretty easy as well since you can drive right up to the shore. Not sure how thawed out twin lakes will be in mammoth. Usually it’s half frozen around that time.

Yes this was last week. There is a couple big parking lots with easy shore access. You can also park along the road all around the lake with easy to moderate shore access. Good luck!

I personally prefer the bigger trout over the smaller ones. The bigger ones remind me of a diluted salmon when it comes to taste. The smaller ones are more tasteless.

Holy Schitt dude you slayed them!!! Couplah questions for you. I've never fished Lake Gregory, why do they keep all the float tubes behind the roped line? In the beginning of the video you and all the other float tube guys are so jammed together how do you keep from snagging other people's lines? Hey sorry for the late reply. This comment was in a filtered section that was “held for approval” by KZbin and I just saw this. They roped off that area because that is where the trout truck came to drop off the fish. Most of the float tubers are just throwing lures and jigs so I think that helped in regards to everyone getting tangled up. Everyone was basically just throwing in front of themselves and retrieving quickly. Big bear is a great option as well, they just recently started stocking gregory again and they stocked it with a good amount of trophy sized trout which is most likely one of the reasons people will target this lake on the stock day over big bear (Higher probability to land a big trout). Not to say there isn’t big fish in big bear because there is but since it’s a large lake you would really have to have some luck to locate them. In gregory during the stock, you will have a good idea of where they would be already. Hope that helps! Good luck fishing and thanks for watching!

Thank you for noticing. They actually brought out that bouy line that day to block everyone from crossing over. I usually use 2lb izorline xxx smoke as well as 3 and 4 lb test p-line floro clear. I can cast the mini jigs a lot further with the 2lb test. I still twitch the mini jig/minnow with the bobber with a slow retrieve. Hope that helps.

If you're getting cramps, keep it simple, drink more water and keep drinking more water until you got to piss. Licking a very small amount of salt works for me also.

Another great vid. You killed it up there. CRAMPS that sucks been there more than a few times, sounds kinda dumb but a sip of pickle juice helps no joke.
