Thank you John for making this video. You have probably saved some lives. I realize you filmed on Lady Simcoe, and you are so right with soft spots, underwater currents etc. Many people are “monkey see-monkey do” and when they see others out there, they assume it is safe, even if the area is “ swiss cheesed.” Awesome underwater footage of the walking and drilling!

Great video. This should be watched by ice anglers every year.

Very informative John Whyte. I also use those charts as a guideline before checking. One other factor to remember is Depth. Lakes that are deeper tend to take longer to cooldown as there's a much greater volume of water to reach those freezing temps. I know simcoe's whitefish grounds take some time to freeze, while Lake St Clair shorelines can freeze fast (but still need to be VERY CAUTIOUS).

hello, if you have a swimming pool full of water, (Small body of water) will the ice form faster or about the same?

If the surrounding conditions were the same it should be the same.

I find it very interesting how imperial for your measurements but metric for your temp bud , pick a side ! Jk keep your stick on the ice :)
@timeonthewaterca Жыл бұрын
That's true. But it primarily gets viewed by a Canadian audience, and everything to do with fishing is still imperial, and temps are metric.
