Lake Michigan Salmon Fishing in a Small Boat

My friend Chris and I went out on his 17 foot Boston Whaler for trout and salmon on Lake Michigan July 8, 2019. The action wasn't fast and furious, but we landed a gigantic rainbow trout!

I have the same size boat with a center console Lowe, so this was very informative. Any fish is a plus good meal and just good to get good sunshine. I try to stay within a mile of shore, because I respect lake Michigan.

Wonderful video bud. In your opinion which one puts up a better fight rainbow or the coho?

Rainbows hit REALLY REALLY hard. Then they usually come right in. Coho salmon will bite and swim right as the boat and then thrash right at the back of the boat if they're big. I like watching the rainbows jump, but that's usually when they get off! I think rainbows typically put up the better fight.

Do u put bait on the fly or just run it bare ?

We just run flies as is. No need for bait. Some guys run a meat plug behind a flasher, rather than a fly, but flies work just as well.
