Awesome vid, my buddy would always brag about how good meat rigs are. I didn't want the hassle but I will give them a try now.

There is a learning curve but it definitely produces large fish.

Salmon Catcher runs meat rig 3'to 4' above and behind 11" flasher attached directly to downrigger ball via 3' leader. Best to use braded steel wire due to very aggressive flasher rotation. I also run a single spoon same way on a second downrigger just to see what they like more meat or spoon. Meat rigg treble is replaced with double single hooks #4.

I troll bait at 3kts with kripple anchovy heads. I’m in SE Alaska I fish a fair amount. This is interesting content

Thanks a ton for your time and sharing your knowledge! Do you guys have a particular meat that you favor and also what was the brand of rigs George liked to run other than DW
@Reel2ReelOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
I have been running DW strips the last few years. Big Water Tackle is the other company George talked about.

Ditch the toothpicks and run Musselhead Tackle meatrigs. 😉

So 8" vs 10" vs big fish paddles ? Are the 8" better when running a mixed spread of baits and may want to troll in the mid to upper 2s? I get that there are always variables and the 10s may work fine . But as a general rule would you run 10s in the low 2s and 8s in the upper 2s with some overlap in the mid 2 speeds ?
@Reel2ReelOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
I tend to run 8s when trolling faster. I rarely troll over 2.5 mph. I like 10” especially when fishing deeper in the water column. They are difficult to reel in on cores and coppers especially long coppers
@jakekerstetter27232 жыл бұрын
Copy that . So basically if you wanna run bigger stuff on the long coppers bring someone who doesn't know any better and won't figure out why you keep handing them those rods .

Any thoughts on the length of rig leader from the flasher to the end of the hook for 8 inch flashers? I have seen 48 to over 60 inches.
@Reel2ReelOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
We run them they way they come from the manufacturer. I have played around with longer and have noticed any difference. I run the same length on all the different rotators.
@matbob72493 жыл бұрын
I didn’t see any difference in length or 2-3 teaser numbers. Musclehead for me is a total winner. I ditched the rest with toothpicks

When you're talking speed , is that mph or kts?
@Reel2ReelOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
MPH at the probe. We all use fish hawks

Last year was by far my worst year for meat. Spoons was king on lake michigan it seems. Wonder if u have any thoughts on that?
@Reel2ReelOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
I think with the low number of kings keeping the speed up and covering water is key. I don’t think meat rigs are as effective with the added speed. We still caught a lot of fish on meat but definitely didn’t run 10-12 meat rigs at the same time like normal.
@zachschultz35343 жыл бұрын
@@Reel2ReelOutdoors yea kings really didnt show up till mid august didnt help either
@bryantburns36643 жыл бұрын
@@zachschultz3534 everyone does it differently. Talk to one guy it's all flashers flies. Nother guy meat. Other dude fuckin spoons so it's like all u can do is just go fishing and see what happens. No joke
@edwardcastile23353 жыл бұрын
You need a cameraman that can do close ups when showing how to hook up these different rigs.

Christ loves fishing. Most of His Apostles fished. That's how they made their money. He built the best fishing boats on the sea of Galilee . There are fishing lakes, seas , and rivers in heaven. Jesus is a Master Carpenter . He builds boats in heaven. They are propelled by Your thoughts. Or if You wish You can paddle them, or use sails. I pray that You reach there to fish with Him....... So let it be written, so let it be done in the book of life, The Most High God willing.......Seven Thunders///////
