I used to be a truck driver, and I've had to drive in conditions like that. It's not fun. One time when crossing Donner Pass, conditions went full white-out at the summit The only way I could tell I was in the lane was by watching for the rust-marks from the tire chains of other trucks that had already passed through.

It might be peaceful if it was less windy, not as bad currently. I was there about 38-40 hours ago when if first started. The wind was so strong the snow felt like sand hitting you in the face, it legit stung. Other people were saying the same. I had to get out at a checkpoint & chain up. It wasn’t your typical peaceful snowstorm. It was melting fast so it was very wet, not yo mention the wind (& I wear glasses). Im out there knee in muddy slush, hands freezing trying to reach up in my wheel well & connect the chains, getting cold, wet & dirty.

: Vehicles steer the front/nose of your vehicle in the direction your heading. No one can maintain contact on a slippery surface. that 18 wheeler had chains on the trailer, and the driving axles of the truck. However, No chains on the front wheels that aid in steering the vehicle. Every year people install chains on the back tires But fail to comprehend that once the front end of your vehicle starts sliding you just lost complete control of something that weighs a significant amount. Years of time spend in the western states during winter months. Weather is unpredictable Carry Snow Chains, tools, a plastic tarp, shovel, recovery gear, tow straps, and know how to use them. Offroad requires chains on the front and back of your vehicle. Once stuck your on your own.

The amount of snow falling is only part of the whole water situation. You can get a lot of snow and still end up in a drought situation. That happens when you get a sudden warm-up that melts the snow quickly, causing flooding conditions downstream. You can't capture and store enough water when that happens, and a lot of that runoff ends up in the ocean via rivers and storm drains. It's better when you have a slow warm-up that melts the snow more gradually. That way you're capturing more water in your reservoirs to replace what's being used by people. When this happens, the snow pack can be thought of as another reservoir that gradually releases water downstream.
