Man, I can't thank you enough for showing me how to play arthur mcbride. I'm an Iirishman, I knew DADGAD was a Celtic friendly tuning, but I assosiated open g tuning with delta blues and Keith Richards. It was cool to be able to play that american blues style stuff in open g, but it was a revelation learnin' McBride in that tuning. It was cool that delta blues tuning had the possibility to sound straight up Celtic Thanks so much dude. I will now learn this. You are a legend may you have the luck of the real Irish, not many real Irish left, I could go into the social science view of this but eh... not the time or place

Wow, what a cool thing to see just after I got off the tractor in the deep snow collecting firewood here in the Kootenay Mountains of BC. Paul Brady’s version, pure art that it is, now with your excellent lesson, has just become accessible to us mere mortals. Many thanks.

@michaelha52543 жыл бұрын
Daniel, it was a very good idea to buy your tabs as well. I can really recommend buying them - they make everything even more clear! I bought Paul Bradys DVD (homespun tapes) as well (same evening I bought your tabs), but: Paul Brady explains, how his songs are meant to be, what he intends to do and how he he wants to sound (which is quite helpful as well) whereas you EXACTLY explain what he is doing! And that applies to Mary and the Soldier & to Arthur McBride as well! So, guitar players out there > Buy Daniels tabs - the combination of explanation + tabs make it quite easy to learn these songs. Which I wanted to do since I came across these songs some 40 years ago. No youtube in the olden days ...

I learned this from you when you released the video a while ago. Thank you ever so much for this lesson! I enjoy playing it a lot, unfortunatley it is to high for me to sing even without the capo. But even without vocals, it sounds really, really good on a 12 string.

Daniel... OUTSTANDING Video instruction!! I take Skype Lessons from a guy named Tony McManus, who actually knows Paul Brady fairly well. He once "opened" for him in a famous Pub in Dublin. Your attention to detail is impressive! I use the "Amazing Slow Downer" (Roni Music) to get more details. One thing he mentioned about Paul: "he almost never plays it the same way twice". As you know, Paul is a master of improvisation, and has been doing it for years!! I've learned a great deal from this video. Blessings to you...
@danielsherrill3 жыл бұрын
for sure, Paul is a Master of improv, which is why I had to listen to several different versions, and then pick my favorite moments...Tony seems great! Any other tunes I should consider adding to the queue of lessons?
@djw00513 жыл бұрын
@@danielsherrill Well, Tony taught me Arthur McBride which is in "open G". Again, weird how PB plays it in his younger days differently from today. He also told me the story of how Bob Dylan called BP on the phone, and asked PB to teach him Arthur McBride. The FUNNY part: Dylan almost NEVER used anything but standard tuning. He was TOTALLY confused when Paul started playing the Open G chords...ha ha ha,,,!

Great tutorial, thank you. I learned your version of Arthur McBride a while ago and have started with this one. One thing I found with Arthur is that when I play it, there are so many verses that it gets a bit stale without knowing some of the little variations that Paul uses throughout the song. So if you ever feel like making the tutorials slightly longer to include some of those extra little fills that would be very welcome! Thanks again
