Lal ded our mother, born in a kashmiri pandit community and her poetry on shavism is so deep. At that time Shavism was so prominent in the valley and today that culture is still alive in Pandits who follow the same traditions. During the peak of shavism in kashmir, the famous lullaby Hukus bukus was written. Hukus bukus is a life philosophy which was Written during the time when Shavism was at its peak in Kashmir … The whole song is enriched in Sanatan philosophy… Some say it is even composed by Lalleshwari (lal ded) the mystic Shiva devote and Poetess of Kashmir Shavism. You can see today the leftover hindus of Kashmir known as Kashmiri pandits are Shivites and their main festivel is shivratri called Herath in kashmiri. So the song goes like this : Tse Kus Be Kus Teli Wan su Kus = Who are you and who am I, then tell us who is he the creator that permeates through both you and I Bhruman daras Poyun chokum : bhruman means between the eyebrows.. so as per Kashmir Shavism and sanatan philosophy we have third eye in between eyebrows which is also called the main center in human brain. poyun chokum means that I put water there. In kashmiri Hindu rituals or puja people put water on face and between eyebrows and it's consider the main center of power and brahmand… pyon is the word for water used by kashmiri pandits…muslims use word aab for it. Then next line is : Brahmish Tekis Takya Tyuk : means yeth “Brahm nish gaye be naebar" The brahm which I had, Brahm means confusion in Sanskrit, the brahm which I had that where is the God got clear and I got to know that it's within myself.

I literally feel this version is the best depiction of our Lala Ded. This version is based on historical facts & references & is totally unbiased. I consider Lala the most intelligent being ever produced by Kashmir. Her vox reflects it all. It is most unusual that her Vox was preserved by a Hindu convert to Islam who took them to Iran by writing them in Farsi. She definitely was far too ahead of her time as her Vox took 200 years to be understood by the common masses. She is the real reference that some humans never die as her Vox still resonates in our Kashmir & will remain so always till eternity. This is how she has created her impression in my mind. She has defined spirituality in the most simple manner & implemented it in practice too. A lady roaming nude in devotion to heaven is the pinnacle of determination & a worldwide unparalleled reference & may be contemporary to none.

The more I learn about Kashmiri Shivism, the more I like it. As someone who has spent much time in Buddhist communities, it has a robust juicy flavour that feels complementary to the sometimes more arid places Buddhist teaching can go. I'm surprised it hasn't garnered more attention in the west as it offers such a lovely examplar of being in the world, but not of it, the world and us being both manifestations of the one unifying potential from which all arises and to which all returns

Lal-Ded, the greatest woman of our valley. We have great respect for her and we consider her as a crown and a spiritual mother of Kashmiri Mysticism. But a handful of Muslims here, don't follow and respect her and are calling her a non-believer. Don't they understand, there is no particular religion for uniting with the divine. Don't they understand, there is only one rule, The rule of Love.

@@Sanjanajav The first ever manuscripts of poetry attributed to Lal ded appear in 4 Persian Hagiographies; 1. Tazkirat-al-arifin (1587) 2. hidayat-al-mukhlisin (1588) 3. Rishi Nama (1631) 4. Asrar-al-abrar (1653) However the translators of her poetry Grierson and barnett in collaboration with Brahmin hindu, Mukund Ram shastri (employed by dogra ruler) disregarded these manuscripts and asserted that the Brahmin oral transmissions were more valuable. The new translation and the original manuscripts conflict with the depiction of Lal ded clearly. It didn't stop there, these two men Grierson and Barnett go on and write "Kashmiri Muslims are many and uneducated having a foreign borrowed admixture and that Kashmiri Hindus are few and educated" depicting their clear bias. Also Mukund Ram in his personal letter to Grierson says that he has collected the works of lal ded that he lost in a house fire (1912), while they started translating and publishing the works in 1914. This shows that the image of Lal ded created was totally biased. . . That is The reason why I wrote "hinduization of Lal ded" While no Muslim writer claimed in their manuscripts that she was a Muslim or Hindu. They depicted her as powerful miracle producing saint! Hope you understood sister.

This is fascinating... The most cosmopolitan and mixed cultural regions so often become engulfed in the worst violence later, when outside forces try to lay claim to a region that can never be one or the other exclusively. I used to be against Idol worship, but later understood why it is important, Upnishad philosophy which talks about the oneness of God - the dance of a common vibrating energy among all animate & inanimate being while Vedantic philosophy stresses Idols as personification of Nature forces. It is the same part of one thing, while not everybody could easily understand Upnishad philosophy which is highly philosophical & complex, if common people will not understand the philosophy behind it their mind will become rigid that's why personification of Nature forces becomes necessary. Rituals, some bad & some good comes & go according to the local culture & time because Santana philosophy doesn't destroy the local culture & sentiments of people it accommodates them and reforms it with slow ingress of Upnishad philosophy.

Idols are symbols that we can use at tools to concentrate our mental faculties on God and keep the concentration steady, because it is difficult to do so on the very sublime abstract and formless aspect of God, although not impossible but using a form or symbol can help. At the end both the form AND the formless conceptions of God must be let go off, BOTH can take you to God but BOTH must be let go in order to experience the Truth. The reason is because even your understanding of the “formless” is another concept in your mind, ALL concepts must be given up including that one, at the end we must not have attachments to any concept whether with form or without form. But both are great tools to get us to that point :)

@@BigHossHackworth Religions begin with mystical experiences whether legitimately spiritual, drug induced, hunger induced, or based on something like macular degeneration or other anatomical process producing "visions" and people pervert the message or get it right in every generation. The true miracle is the transformative power of The Word. Whether ancient books of wisdom that pre-date the Bible or something else grounded in the reality of human experience and how to overcome existential challenges. All of the holy books have all of the words you need to achieve peace in the midst of chaos. Studies have shown that just good literature has provided more insight than self-help books. You'll get more from Tolstoy than a motivational tape. When people are motivated by joy, love, and a devotion to Truth and Justice, they don't fixate on hellfire and punishment because they are too busy spreading good will to others. Our natural state of being isn't fear and violence against the Other as bigots like to say to justify bad behaviors. Human cooperation is how we've survived as a species. Love of profit over people is what has brought us to the eve of annihilation. It's intent that makes all of the difference. "The kingdom is within". We have free will to choose blessings or curses - what we call heaven or hell is cause and effect. Whether there's literally an outer darkness beyond the fourth dimension remains to be seen but we put ourselves in those states of mind by the choices we make. It goes against our nature to walk over the poor and infirmed, and greed makes us miserable. Even grieving too much can destroy us from the inside out. That's why stories of redemption endure for thousands of years, we thrive on the words that make our hearts sing and provide hope. Even when it makes no logical sense, having a sincere trust in the universe creates magic, for lack of a better word.
