As a musician who sings, thank you for not asking the usual questions. When musicians go on promo interviews, I stop watching after I have seen them 2-3 times. Toure asked her great questions, too. I learned a lot about between these two interviews about Lalah Hathaway.

The accidental genius moment as far as being able to do that sound that she makes which she is also known for. I discovered that I could make the same or similar sound about 10 years ago while I was watching a performance on TV and I heard an organ sound and attempted to memic the sound I heard and it sounded like the sound she makes. At first it shocked me this particular sound and how I was able to do it which was altogether slightly different from the sound I was trying to make. And yes I can still do that sound from time to time. Lol So we have that in common.

I have to correct some misinformation. Midway through the video, Lalah incorrectly states that "flat singing" is not part of black music. Not only is it part of black music, everyone does it, going back to Field Holler songs. Usually, the call-and-response starts with the soloist singing flat. This is a major part of blues music and gospel (listen to Sarah Vaughn and Whitney Houston). Even her father seems to relish in it, like on the songs "Be there" and "Some day we'll all be free." Let's not whitewash our history.
