I slowed the play down where the puck went off Talbot's glove (13:29). He was screened by Chariot and Chariot made no attempt to block the shot. Talbot didn't see the puck until it had gone between Chariot's legs. Lazy defense. Talbot didn't have time to react to the shot and extend his glove in time before the puck was on him. The goal was more on Chariot than Talbot
@wsujazz73 күн бұрын
Chariot does this a lot. He doesn’t read plays and situations well. Low hockey IQ. There was a play (I think in the ducks game) where Mo got burned and Chairot was to slow to read the fact that it was becoming a 2 on 1, he didn’t gap correctly and the ducks scored on a partial breakaway. It could have been a more defendable 2 on 1

With Yzermans track record of not making any rash decisions or pulling the trigger too quickly I see him still believing in the Lalonde process for some reason, unfortunately we will just miss out on a bunch of good available coaches because nothing will change.

Unfortunately for this season I agree. Yzerman is not a rash or quick decision maker. He invested a boatload in the off-season on contracts and FA signings. Nothing about that was without Lalonde's input and plan. I think Yzerman is just in to deep at this point. I'll be extremely surprised if he fires this coaching staff before the end of the season unless fans literally go on strike in front of LCA.
@Schwartzkov2 күн бұрын
@@PCPAyLOAD yzerman has said in the past he isn't a fan of making a Boh change like that on the middle of the season. I agree with that idea to an extent. Currently there are alot of negative emotions toward the team and the coach and as a fan I agree with those emotions. But like you said yzerman sees 60 plus games remaining and plenty of time to play better. I hope they are either good enough to make playoffs or bad enough for the 1st pick. Nothing in-between would really help
@shmurdabobby30342 күн бұрын
Even though this is painful if we can get a good coach locked in for next year I'd rather just suffer this year with Lalonde because if we can just aim for a super high pick at this point and just TANK. Our expectations are so low that if we magically made the playoffs we would just get mopped in the first round (we won't make the playoffs). With all of Yzermans past comments on how "he would like to get one of those superstars/he isn't sure how he would get one of those players" well surely finishing dead last will help in the draft which would boost our future dramatically. It is unlikely someone like 1st overall superstar will just sign with Detroit in free agency, but unfortunately it is really what we need.
@PCPAyLOAD2 күн бұрын
@shmurdabobby3034 I have the opposite philosophy. Waiting has its pitfalls to the mental side of the game that can linger well beyond the end of the season. Larkin and others busting their asses aren't getting any younger. If all you're going to do is kick the can you're better off benching half the team and bringing up as many kids from GR as the league will allow. I lean heavily toward coaching change now while the Wings are only a few points out of a wildcard. Get some fresh energy in the locker room now before its to late. Or even worse, players like Larkin push to hard to make up for the teams deficiencies and has a major injury.

We're in a tough spot. I've been on the fire Lalonde train since last December and think a change should have been made during the offseason. That said, we're approaching a point where a decision needs to be made now or in the upcoming offseason, and nothing inbetween. Are we bad enough to tank for a top 3 pick in the draft? On paper, absolutely not, but we did just lose pretty handily to two bottom feeders in ANA and SJ, so maybe we are? Better coaches don't grow on trees, and when guys like Jim Montgomery or Joel Quennville become available, you better swoop them up while you can before someone else does, but I'm afraid that a coaching change could see a bump where we finish the season in a similar spot as last year; just barely missing the playoffs and drafting 12-16. I'm sure Yzerman is making these very calculations, and there is no clear answer. I think if we continue losing in similar fashion through December, his hand will be forced.

Just don't think people understand how good this is. What if we finish bottom 3? I'm stoked. Chance at a top 1-5 pick, we have a couple good core pieces signed, GT in GR that's doing well, ASP maturing, SE doing well, progressing, one step closer to some awful contracts coming of the books, Danielson maturing (love to see him come up in a couple months and get a look and see what he can do) We need to draft (and have the guy turn out as) a #1 C. I am not upset about Lalonde or this season. Why? I never got my hopes overinflated to now be deflated. Not dumb. Look at OTT and BUFF, I don't think fans (of any rebuilding teams) know how long it takes for windows to open for them and windows to close for the 'old guard' Look at BOS, literally they were 'toast' since SCF against STL, now it's finally happening 5-6 YEARS later. My disappointment was getting ADB, that should have been weaponized cap space and we keep the picks vs send to OTT. ZERO loyalty. We should have told Larkin 'Listen, I'm gonna deal you to a contender for a 1st and 3rd, you can compete for a cup, then we'll re-sign you as a UFA' THAT WAS THE MOVE. We should have gotten much cheaper 'place holders' besides FFS Copp, Compher, Chariot, Holl, cheaper guys on 1-2 year deals, tank proper, weaponize, acquire picks and pects. We need to just be happy we are not 'on the cusp' of being a PO team, then finish 10th, pick 14th and miss out on a top 1-5 pick. Our biggest problem is going to be MTL, they are absolutely destroying 19 in asset management, pick stockpiling, cap space. Hughes (although ever so slightly different situation) did what 19 should have been doing or should have done. This is not even close to being on Lalonde. Nor was it on Montgomery. Like people are saying with Moore 'He sucks at coaching' Nah, he lost 18 starters (won his 4 games as HC and was the OC to a Natty) his coaching skills don't 'magically' disappear. Same with Monty, when he had the right personnel, he literally coached a team to the best reg season all time, then they lost some (key) guys and FFS signed Zad and Elias who have done nothing and might do nothing for duration of their contracts. So, they basically have an aging BM, Pasta and Swayman. We have Seider, Raymond, Larkin and kind of Talbot (who we should be trading at the line for whatever we can get)

Edit. Regarding DRW's future, it is not at all as bright as some want to make it out to be. Here it comes down to what "most" people do wrong is to overestimate the capabilities found in the RW pipeline. You both say what many others do, see it very positively when there is no basis for such an attitude. For players who are taken in the first round #6-15, the odds of them reaching the NHL are in the low double digits, the odds are so low that and here comes the big kicker. Namely, many of us tend to praise DRW for their draft skills. S.Y has not been successful with anyone outside the first round regardless of position. In fact, S.Y and his staff are useless at picking gems or hidden talents, the one that stood out is Mo who was taken when they had the opportunity to do so. Most others had lower rank on MO's and not likely that he would be available for DRW, there of their choice. During the last nine years, there is no US youth player drafted by DRW as a player in the NHL. US youngsters dominate U14-16 and so on. And many of us blame DRW's bad luck with the draft draw and it's rigged (maby). The pattern here that IF and BUT X or Y should fall in for this to work out better for DRW than the current one. And then we only talk about young people in our ranks who don't get/take a place in the NHL. The DRW pipeline is not as deep as many would like to think it is. DRW has loads of averages players in their ranks, it is true that there are a few who have more potential than most. However, the odds are the same for them as all other teams. The difference is that other teams have drafted better players. You won't find two identical players drafted by S.Y, this means that there is a better chance that someone will succeed e.i on Goalkeeper. When it comes to the depth, it is thin when it comes to other than those that we usually name e.i. what is behind ASP? This lack also means that S.Y misses out on the free market, as his track record is not much to write home about. Here we come back to actions, not only the head coach bears a responsibility but so does the DRW GM. The most positive thing about how DRW plays today is that this probably gives them a higher draft pick, so why not burn down the house and sell what can be sold...

Here is my 2 cents. Lalonde needs fired this year. Maybe it doesn’t happened till the end of the season but it needs to happen. His chain is gone completely. And the team has lost any faith in him. Sooner the better. But yzerman may wait out the season which I think is a mistake. Second. I’m a huge yzerman fan. Always have been. I don’t even mind him as a gm either. But the cards in the 2025 season are in favor of the playoffs. Bad contracts come off. Other bad contracts are only a year off so he could move or buy them out without too much impact. Asp might be ready to take the reins in the nhl. Or at least ahl being able to get called up. Cossa and or Augustine could be ready to take over for Lyon at the very least. Yzerman may only need to make 1 trade for a puck moving defender and will have the cap space to do it. Without worrying about seider or Raymond contracts. If yzerman doesn’t make the playoffs in 2025 he’s gone too. I’ll cut him slack this offseason because moving those contracts would have costed quite a bit of picks. When in 1 year they come off the books. Smart move. Don’t get rid of the future for one year to just slide into playoffs and lose. 2024 Lalonde gone. 2025 yzerman gone.

Just think. Without moving any bad contracts and just letting Husso and Holl walk without loss of draft picks. That’s 8 mil in cap. The d core could look like this very easily. Seider/edvisson , asp/ 8 mil left hand def, Johansson/chiarot. That’s vastly superior to todays d core and would only require one trade with available cap automaticly

I can’t stand to even look at Lalonde, he just irritates me so goddamn badly. Low event, fruitless, and I would dare say, a damaging system. The players look miserable, and the players are actually getting worse. I really do think 70% of what’s happening is the coaching system. Yes, we have roster issues, significant ones, but we should be at least seeing high energy from our players. It’s an unmitigated disaster. Lalonde needs to go, the players don’t respect him, and neither do I.

Year six of the Yzerplan and Brad wants us to wait two more years for the prospects to make the team. No way would I trade Rass for a 1st round bust in Columbus even one that shoots right handed. Rassumsen is one of the few Wing forwards that would go thru a wall to win and he is one of the few with size. The 3rd line with Rass, JT and Copp was a bright spot last year. Neither Copp or Compher are have the same success this year without Rass on their line. I would be more amenable with trading ASP for a proven right shot NHL defenseman. Pellikka refused to come to America this year so he could chase big stats in the Swedish league. Sounds like a young version of Kane.

You can never be further from the truth than you are making yourself out to be here. ASP has said all along that he wants to play a third JVM for Sweden. Very few players are given such an opportunity and he sees it as an honor to belong to a unique group of youngsters who did. When it comes to "stats", ASP is really not a "stats player" but a very stable person who is close to the earth, still a very young person though. He also had said that he wants to continue to develop before taking the next step across the continent. ASP has had very rapid development and staying in Sweden is only positive as he plays in a very good team and is given lots of opportunities in all situations. Today he can be seen as an established player in the SHL, not a noob. There is no reason for him or others today to take the step over to the AHL if they cannot manage to take a place in the NHL. The AHL is a worse league than the SHL and as long as DRW doesn't solve its problems, ASP will do better in Sweden. Personally, I think most people have an overconfidence in ASP's ability, I see it as obvious that he will do a year in GR before he is completely successful and that has only to do with his style and size & speed in the NHL today. It will take time for him to adapt 110% to a life across the Atlantic. RW can afford to use time to his advantage.

@@billjohansson88 So you agree that it was his decision to stay another year in Sweden. Do you think the Wings brass preferred that he come over and play in the AHL this year? You agree that it will require a year to adjust to the smaller ice surface. Do you think we need a offensive defenseman on the right side defense sooner rather than later? If all this is true then his decision to not come over was putting his personal wishes ahead of those of upper management. Is he a guy who will go thru a wall for the team. I doubt it.

@@davideggleston1031 -Yes and he has also signed his ELC so then the decision is also anchored with the front office of RW. Do you think the Wings brass preferred that he come over and play in the NHL this year? - What they think is uninteresting to me, what matters is his ELC contract that both parties have signed. If you personally have a problem with it, contact Steive. You agree that it will require a year to adjust to the smaller ice surface. - No, I think size doesn't matter as much as so many people over there think they do. And I believe they tat than play several matches of that size already for several years. I personally think that everyone from EU/RU needs time to adapt to new environment and cultures and ASP is still a very young person. Do you think we need an offensive defenseman on the right side defense sooner rather than later? - Personally, I think we need three LW forwards and then we need 4 defenders who all know how to play that roll. I don't count Johansson as he is a rookie this year, those requirements/expectations will come next year. Burger was placed in the 4th line last time and Motte played in the 1st line lol. If all this is true then his decision not to come over was putting his personal wishes ahead of those of upper management. - Well, it only reinforces that the decision was made by two parties even more so here. Is he a guy who will go through a wall for the team. I doubt it. - If that is a requirement you have, then good luck finding 23 players who can be signed by Steive based on such a template. As a desktop GM, you should realize for yourself how stupid this argument really is. Good luck with your NHL 2024 season and have a nice weekend.0

The Red Wings are boring team They're now fun to watch at all They give continuously give the puck away. I can't score They can't even pass the puck to each other. Stevie why better make a change or this season is over with before it even started The head coach needs to be replaced and they need to get some talent what they're putting on the ice couldn't even win in the AHL

Jim Montgomery is not the answer. He sucks in the playoffs. Hire coach Q now!

Gotta get to the playoffs to suck in the playoffs though…. He does at least that.
