Hi Jeff. Can you estimate what the diameter of the drip line was; (estimate) of the diameter of the branches were? Is it pretty upright and NOT spreading? Thanks, great video!

Hi Jeff-when you planted your Lamb Hass did you cover with plastic during winter or during summer to protect the tree? Any advise how to plant and care of a young avocado tree? I bought a Hass still in the container in a protected area but I want to plant the tree directly in the ground. Thank you so much from Turlock, Ca.
@TropicalGardenGuy Жыл бұрын
I don’t cover my trees , I found that if planted in raised bed it isn’t necessary. For some reason the better drainage helps them get through extremes. This said millions of avocados are planted directly into the ground. If you need to protect in winter or summer a beach umbrella may be all you need. Just make sure to not over irrigate in the summer

dropped my like .... That tree is a monster, only 5 years old wow. I am bummed my trees are kinda static. some grow well others just "survive". I am hoping they are just rooting and getting established and with just take off in the fall maybe?? ********************************CONGRATS ON 200***********************************

Thanks.... I shoulda been a lil more clearer. It was 5 years ago that it was grafted. It was a hass seedling in a 5 gal pot just the year b4 being grafted. So maybe a total of 7 years? I have a google street view pic from 2015 about the time it was grafted and it was about 5 ft tall.

@TropicalGardenGuy4 жыл бұрын
Plant trees on a 1 ft mound. Use only native soil no amendments. On top put a bag of wood chip bark
@RareAvoTrees2 жыл бұрын
Fresno and Clovis can have hard pan avo can't sit in water thats why mound is a great perhaps 2 to 4 feet if clay soil or hard pan was never broken through.this will help tree produce once it's big enough and growing healthy strong .

I see that there are 2 trees on both sides of the avacado tree. That does help protect it from the wind and frost when it was smaller. So how often to you fertilize it? How often do you water it? I have 2 trees planted (1 from lowe's and one grown from seed) in the ground, 2 grfted in pots, plus 2 more seeds that I just sprouted. They are all a little lanky. Thanks for sharing.
@TropicalGardenGuy4 жыл бұрын
That lamb tree is my neighbors tree. Both trees on each side are deciduous though they do offer some wind protection mid summer. The property owner waters by hand his trees all the time. I’d hate to see his water bill!
@gregmicik4893 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeff - I am curious about your watering cycle for your avocado trees? Did you change the cycle from the time it was first planted to its current state and or adapt with seasons or if we’re in drought like conditions where we find ourselves today?
@TropicalGardenGuy3 жыл бұрын
Yes, right now the only water they get is over spray from my lawn sprinklers. Which are set for 5 minutes twice per week. As for during the heat of the summer they get watered with my drip soaker i featured in a previous video
@RareAvoTrees Жыл бұрын
Well that tree might be in zone 10 since it's by a sidewalk, ashfault road, and houses around that tree 5 miles out of town might not perform as wel itsl really hard to say.

@TropicalGardenGuy Жыл бұрын
There are quite a few fruiting avocado tree in Sacramento. I’d start with mexicola grande as a first tree, but I know of several huge Hass trees as well
@michealsailor74234 жыл бұрын
Looks like fuerte or Pinkerton the other variety. Hard to tell the texture of the avocado from video. Smooth texture most likely fuerte. If pebbly problably Pinkerton.

Hey are you sure this is lamb hass? Lamb hass is known for having cupped leaves (like taco shells) and be pretty compact. And the fruit kinda looks like a hass on steroids with big shoulders near the stem and i’m not sure i see that in your tree. One more thing : the stem on lamb hass attaches to the side of the fruit while lamb hass has the stem right at the very top…
@TropicalGardenGuy3 жыл бұрын
Lol, I got the bud stick from a friend, who got it from a friend, so you could be right, though those cados across the street are wayyy bigger than any Hass I’ve seen. There’s actually 3 grafts on that tree, there could be a mix up on mine as well!

Hi Antonio , no I’m just a hobby gardener. Once in awhile I have an extra stuff though. You can find avocados at Lowe’s . They try to keep em stocked up but they sell out quickly. Best one for a beginner seems to be mexicola or mexicola grande as they are very hardy. Bacon is good to but fruit is ripe mid winter

Hi! I’m In Stockton Ca I’m looking to hire someone to assist with grafting. I have two avocado trees. A lamb hass and a fuerte. I would like to only keep one that provides both types of avocados. I believe this is done in the spring time. Are you available? I’m very interested.
