Lamb Hass avocado 🥑 is the one of the best, I prefer it over other types. Amazing taste+ creamy texture + big size. 👍

The size reminds me of an avocado trees fruit we had a s a child. We lived just down the street from Disney Land. Its still there today. I can see it on Google maps. Anyway it has nice large fruit with creamy oily flavor. I believe it was a Anaheim variety medium green color semi smooth skin. My dad would fill banana boxes and sell to nearby restaurants. It was a big tree and picking the top fruit was a challenge. Ill have to go by and grab a couple grafts from it sometime.

I think I bought Lamb avocados before at a grocery store in Central California. It was sold as "jumbo avocado". They were definitely similar to this one here. They were very smooth and buttery. I remember them being better than the average Hass.

Thanks for the vid. I've got a lamb hass and a sir prize. I actually enjoy the sir prize more because it ripens so much sooner and it doesn't oxidize for like a week.

Your last comment spot on, just bot avos at COSCO, labeled Hass, but obviously not, rather Lambs, my first, really like them better than our home grown Hass! SO GLAD to have two young LAMBS growing, one with fruit. Thx again for videos.😀

The pedicel comes out the top of the Lamb Hass. I just looked at two Hass on my kitchen counter and they come out on the side of the top. You could sent pictures to Jenn Evans a research horticulturist with Brokaw Nursery. jenn@brokawnursery.com

Thanks for profiling the Lamb Hass. You mentioned that it doesn't have a strong nuttiness, but my most recent one was the first time I tasted such an obvious nutty taste. Does flavor vary much from one fruit to the next, or between early and late season harvest? I planted mine (from a nursery) several years ago and was able to get 1 the first year it fruited, 4 last year, and harvested 9 this year (lost one to a squirrel). There are dozens of baby fruits that just set this month, and I'm looking forward to continuing the exponential growth each year! I've also watched the Fuerte video, as that is my other tree. (A third one was Hass, but it died last year.)

Hi David, I find it hard to talk about flavor and taste because it is so subjective and I don't think I have a very sensitive palate. Yet I do talk about it! Yes, I find that late season Lambs are very pleasingly flavorful compared to early season Lambs. Right now (end of May) I'm eating some dropped Lambs that taste pretty bland. But last summer I had some Lambs picked in late August that were spectacularly tasty.

I wish that there is a richer vocabulary to describe avocado. There are hundreds of words to describe red wine. But for avocado there are really just two words nutty and buttery. Pretty sad. Like zutano has a very distinct taste. Wish there's a way to describe that so I can stay from avocados that taste like that

I agree. I'm constantly looking for new words to describe the different flavors but some of them are indescribable to me; I just don't have the vocabulary needed.

how about hazel nut, cashew, instead of nutty?

Thanks for this video. Hey Greg, can Lambs be grown in tropical climate regions? Thanks. Pete :")

I just picked up a lamb tree and these videos are getting me very excited!!! I am growing about 14 hass avocado trees from a grocery store avocado pit. Do you have any tips or suggestions in attempting to polinate the hass trees in my yard?
@gregalderdotcom3 жыл бұрын
Hi Remy, Bees do a good job of pollinating avocados for you. If you don't see many bees around, you might plant some flowers to attract more.

Hi Greg. I've been following you for a while. I also live in San Diego County. I've been trying without much success to grow a few avocado trees. I have two Lamb Hass's and One Fuerte. My smaller Lamb Hass has been in the ground about 3 years and is struggling. No fruit, not many flowers, doesn't look vibrant. My other Lamb Hass is bigger and but younger, it has been in the ground a year and a half. It looks healthy and has one avocado on it. The Fuerte is struggling as well as the first Lamb Hass- its been in the ground about a year and a half. Few flowers, dropping leaves, black on the outside of some of the branches. I'm afraid I'll lose the two weaker trees. Any suggestions?

Hi Elizabeth, Sorry to hear about the struggles. Often they are related to water in some way: tree didn't get enough water when first planted, didn't get enough through a heat wave, is planted by a large tree that is stealing all the water you give it, or soil has very slow drainage, etc. See these articles and maybe you can figure out your specific issues: gregalder.com/yardposts/how-to-water-a-newly-planted-avocado-tree/ gregalder.com/yardposts/how-much-and-how-often-to-water-avocado-trees-in-california/ Best of luck!

Most all of us struggle to get avos going, I lost 5 due to improper planting: planted too deep, they like a raised bed, wrong fertilizer, don't mix in ANY organic material into the hole, mulch on top only, mulch with coarse wood chips. Frequent shallow waterings, avo roots are in the top 8 inches. Stake loosely so the trunk can develop strength. Greg has blogs on all these topics. I also carefully remove most of the woody planting medium the avo comes in pryor to planting as this can cause root rot. Poor avo growth most always is a root issue.
@alaa8146 Жыл бұрын
The soil got issues, maybe too much salt , or high/low pH, little organic material. generally farmers grow avocado higher than ground level to allow roots to get warm temperature also to avoid roots rot. The ultimate way to enhance the soil is by using vermicompost, it's expensive to get , but in order to save cost make huge pile of organic material like chicken, sheep, cow manure , or human poop 💩 ( powerful stuff😂) + kitchen scraps + dead plants or grass .. then add few worms to do the composting process, when its ready mix that black gold fertilizer with the soil around the plants, or soak the vermicompost in water few days to make compost tea then water the plants, and they'll become insanely strong, supers healthy and productive💪

Please can you provide the details of more avocados if possible... I am from Nepal and I am very confused with the varieties... And o you know how we name avocados...???
@gregalderdotcom5 жыл бұрын
Hi Santosh, I'm trying to make more avocado profile videos as I have time. I'll definitely keep them going until I've profiled all of the varieties that I know well. Whoever grew the seedling tree usually names the avocado variety (every seedling tree is a unique variety).

Is a Lamb better than a Carmen over all?

Tree or fruit?

@gregalderdotcom4 жыл бұрын
I prefer Carmen over Lamb. The fruit of Carmen is just Hass so it's like saying I prefer Hass over Lamb. The Carmen tree behaves differently in different climates. In my climate (inland So. Calif.), it behaves almost the same as Hass, but closer to the ocean it flowers and sets a second crop in late summer/early fall. I don't care about the second crop, but I do like that Carmen fruit doesn't drop from the tree like Lamb does. Lamb, like many late varieties, drops some of its fruit before it's totally mature. Some people say they don't experience this much whereas most people say they do. I do experience this with Lamb, and it's a little irritating. I've never seen Hass or Carmen drop fruit in this way.
