Good recording technique, clean playing and properly dialed tone. Way too many people slap on too much gain with scooped mids, play through things half-sloppy then call it a day. Taking your time practicing slow and getting proper note separation and articulation makes a massive difference compared playing a couple of dozen BPMs faster than what you can actually manage, now add on a shitty dialed tone and subpar recording technique and it takes me back to my teenage years :o)
