Recently we came across this beautiful Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2 1967 at The Gallery in Brummen, The Netherlands. We took this magnificent car out for a spin! We love to hear your comments on our videos or receive a thumb up! Thanks a lot!
The first 400GT, commonly referred to as simply the 400GT or 400GT Interim, was essentially the older 350GT featuring an enlarged, 3929 cc (240 c.i.) V12 engine, with a power output of 320 bhp (239 kW). Twenty-three of these cars were built, with three featuring aluminium bodywork.
The second 400GT, commonly known as the 400GT 2+2, had a different roofline, and minor sheetmetal changes compared to the 350GT and first 400GT. It was first presented at the 1966 Geneva Auto Show. The larger body shape enabled the +2 seating to be installed in the rear, where the 350GT only had room for luggage or +1 seating. The bodywork was designed by Carrozzeria Touring. The 400GT 2+2 also had a Lamborghini designed gearbox, with Porsche style synchromesh on all gears, which greatly improved the drivetrain.
A total of 23 units of 400GT Interim and 224 units of the 400GT 2+2 were built from 1966 to 1968, when it was replaced with the Islero.
A special, one-off version called the 400GT Monza was built by Neri and Bonacini, who had previously worked on the 350GT.
The 400GT 2+2 shared the same wheelbase as the 400GT Interim and the 350GT. All were 2.55 Meters.

Ferruccio Lamborghini’s story is pretty unique, he was a successful manufacturer of tractors and farming equipment that decided to build luxury cars, not sportscars....in fact he despised car racing as a whole and no official Lamborghini has ever taken part in a racing competition (only privates that bought and prepared a car have). So he founded Lamborghini Automobili and came up with this thing, it’s notable how this model which mounts the same V12 4 liter engine that was later mounted onto the Miura (with mods to the gearshift and clutch) is totally muffled because, again, Lamborghini did not like noisy uncomfortable sports cars. In fact as long as he was alive Lamborghini has never manufactured a cabriolet model...because he hated and found very uncomfortable the wind on his head. :-) It was basically a pure shot of luck that he was convinced by 3 young engineers of his factory to build a chassis, that they had designed as an afterwork exercisein 1965, mounting the 4 liter engine trasversaly in the mid-rear section and presenting it at the Geneva Autoshow. The chassis caught the attention of Ferruccio Bertone, a successful car designer, that proposed Lamborghini to design the body for it. Apparently Lamborghini was skeptical to the last moment about that crazy uncomfortable car that came out...as the Miura. The Miura shocks the world and Lamborghini suddenly becomes credited as a competitor of Ferrari and Maserati.

Truth is, the 400 GT was a better competitor to Ferrari's road cars. He set out to make a better Ferrari and he did. I love this machine.

,,,Stunningly beautiful car and a nicely made video --thanks for posting. Lamborgini set out to make a car that would fix all the things he disliked about the Ferraris he had purchased and ended up making some masterpieces..Best thing is--you could actually buy one of these now (provided you could find one) for a fraction of what the similar era Ferraris cost,,and have a car that costs a fraction to own and drive as well. The same engine,,with modifications was made and used by Lambo for almost 50 years...sweet ride
