You wait years for an off-road supercar and then two come along at once. Lamborghini’s Sterrato provides a rival for the Porsche 911 Dakar, but does a screaming V10 and roof scoop make for a proper Lambo rally car? CAR mag’s Ben Barry heads to Palm Springs to find out.

I too was cynical about this and the 911 Dakra, but I realise, forget the ‘off road’, its a ‘real road’ car…. this is a real option for those who live in the country or in a country with terrible roads, potholes, road debris, high curbs, step drive ways, inclines etc where a slammed performance car is not practical. Most commenting negatively could not afford one so, just like a ‘normal’ Hurrican they see it as pointless and moss the point for the wealthy who can.

I was cynical about the Sterrato too (as I felt Porsche has more rally and off road heritage to justify the Dakar), hence it's taken me 10 days to get round to watching this, but I'm pretty impressed; looks like Lamborghini have done a proper job. A bit too Mad Max maybe, but I think it's cool. Enjoyed the video, cheers.

if you come to a car meet with a sterrato and have paint fade and scuffed plastic thats a flex because yk that thing is being driven, if i had one i wouldn't worry about keeping it shiny that's a car that deserves battle scars

Love both porsche daker and this,it would be hard to choose ,i think porsche might be better off road though the lambo v10 howl does it for me!

@@johnnyboy1586 not exactly. Some are much more pointless than others, and very often, as a result, pointlessly expensive. It's always been my view that any car with 12 cylinders is *completely* stupidly pointless. Mostly because it's just plain wasteful for the point of being so. Same goes for 10 cylinders. No one needs more than 8 cylinders in their engine. A v8 (especially if it's turbocharged or supercharged) will yield all the power and torque anyone could ever use. But these days, engines have become so good, that this also applies to v6 turbo units, which can produce 500 - 600 hp. That's perfect for any sane usage scenario, because these smaller v6 units are lighter, more compact, and potentially much more efficient. It's a win win win. Why does everyone pretend that more is always better? The Maserati mc 20 is a very fine car, a supercar, I think, and it manages perfectly well with a v6 unit. Ditto the Ferrari 296 gtb, which never needed any extra hybrid stuff, but .... Ferrari. It's true, that it could be argued that 'all supercars are pointless', but that is a rather cynical and joyless viewpoint, and also somewhat subjective, as regards to what exactly qualifies as a supercar. Many porsche 911 cars have what many would consider to be supercar performance, but they are considered 'sports cars', I believe. Lastly, consider the case of the stunning Alfa Romeo giulia quadrifoglio. A car based on a saloon, with a v6 engine, which has near supercar performance, and is super desirable. There has been, to a certain extent, a 'democratisation of power', as far as modern engines are concerned, and this has really blurred the lines between what is considered a 'sports car', and a supercar. A bit of a ramble, but that's my 2 cents.

I agree with alot of what you say,I personally prefer what they say is a modern sports car, more than enough power for the road as the super car has become so ridiculously powerful and fast I don't see the piont of them but there are people that love to own something they can say does 0-60 under 3 sec and does 200 + mph which to me is all a bit silly. As far as engines go they all have there attributes and unique sound and I appreciate them all ,I do love the sound of the 10 and 12 cylinder engines though as I love that high reving wail they can produce 😀

the whole Car is pointless, for that kind of money and for that kind of driving in the dirt, it's too stupidly expensive. But anyway...I admit if I was a millionaire I might be tempted to buy one, after all, I would have plenty of money to spend.
