i'm sorry for the lack of info in this video , alot of the footage i got didn't take ,not sure why
@Miguelruiz205 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. I just finished doing my flooring and was about to start my stairs. I have never seen stair noeses that were screwed in from the top. The bottom portion of the nose appears to be made to snap into a metal bracket (Not to screw a nail into from the top). I bring this up because I just finished my flooring and used a similar piece of molding, with the exact same design underneath, to transition from laminate to tile. It came with a metal rail bracket that screwed into the floor and allowed the transition to snap into place. Either way, I think the stairs look great! Thanks again.
@FloorsbySouthernboys5 жыл бұрын
Miguel Ruiz you’re right that does come with a metal track And typically that’s how you would do it, but on the steps with the body weight sitting on the edge of the stair nosing the manufactures recommended that I screw it down just as I did
@TheSands833 жыл бұрын
Yeah that track isn’t a good plan on steps old bud.. I’d b way to nervous to use the metal track n leave it.. he definitely did the right thing.. I’ve done my fair share and I do it exactly how he did it except I have and old piece of trim for a jig is the only difference. He definitely made the right decision n knows what he’s doing

Great videos! I do stair same way as you, bottom to top etc. But I just use pl premium and brad nails for nosings. Colour rite latex fill to match in nail holes. Can’t ever see where I nailed them. Never have had to do a repair and never and unhappy customer in over ten years. Keep up the great work!

Honest question as newer diyer. PL is impossible to remove so why use it when we need to change flooring again in 10 years? How will I remove laminate flooring to change it or do a repair if I use PL to install it?
@FloorsbySouthernboys2 жыл бұрын
I have taken it up tons of times and it’s not that bad, most of the time you can get PL up with a chisel and hammer
@jasoncook48035 жыл бұрын
Honestly the flexible stair nosing is a better way to go. I used it on a set of similar stairs at my place about 15 years ago and it's still like new. PL 400 on the treads, risers and nosing and it's all good.

The bull nose cannot be raised on a stair edge because it is a trip hazard and against the code. Always cut the stair covering short to let the bull nose settle level with the laminate so there is no raised edge.

So I stopped by a flooring place to ask about redoing my stairs and they seemed very unhappy about my desire to rip up the carpet and replace it with laminate because it’s a “lot of work.” I see many steps (no pun intended) but it doesn’t seem as arduous as tiling, maybe? Should I look elsewhere?

Those stair nose pieces are designed to go in a track that is screwed to the stair. Then the the piece is glued into the track.
@FloorsbySouthernboys5 жыл бұрын
Ken Driscoll Yes sir you are exactly right, however due to the many failures of this design the manufacturer recommended that I do it this way, but you are absolutely correct they are made specifically for that reason

i have same nosing and flooring, but the diferent is, i dont put laminating under step and expose the concrete .. only top of step and nosing. is it okay? im using quick step laminating oak and nosing just like you have what if i dont screw it? is it strong enough if only use glue?what kind of screw u used?
@FloorsbySouthernboys7 жыл бұрын
Arieann Co if you’re on concrete you would have to drill and anchor it and after I drill my holes are used a counter sink bit and I used decking screws because they have some tiny heads on them and it would be as least as noticeable as possible my opinion I don’t think I would trust just the glue holding it because when people walk on steps they tend to walk on the very edge which is the Stare nosing so I would definitely want it anchored down somehow
@arieannco62367 жыл бұрын
great advice, i thought so, ppl tend to walkon the edge of stair... should i used foam before layering parquet at the top of the concrete? or just glue it right away to it sorry for asking so muhc, because i dont have some pros to make jobs done, i need to it by myself thanks for the reply...
