I’m a Bangladeshi and I had followed your recipe to cook Soup Joumou for the first time this New Year for my husband, who’s a Haitian, and he loved it! The only things I did a bit differently were: I used both the squashes. Added one more maggi cube. 1 more tbsp of tomato paste. I chopped up the parsley and celery leaves and added them into the broth. I let the thyme steam while floating on top of the broth to soften the leaves, and then took off the leaves and added them to the broth and discarded the twig portion. My husband loved it and said it was authentic Haitian Soup Joumou! Thank you for sharing your recipe! :D

I’m Puerto Rican from Puerto Rico and have Haitian relatives ❤️ my great grandmother made many of these recipes. Thank you for sharing this knowledge. Although my grandmother and great grandparents are no longer alive I try to learn more about their culture. I’d love to visit Haiti one day God willing.

We make this with frozen squash purée and oxtail. My grandma adds dumplings and Yuka . I like the way you keep the clove out of the soup.

I reside in Charleston, SC and there is no Haitian restaurant near me. I cannot say enough how much your recipes have helped me. I made "Soup Joumou" this weekend and it was delicious!! The recipe for the Haitian spice is divine and I use it with all my meat dishes. Keep up the great work and I cannot wait to see what you will be cooking next.

When I used to live in Boston there was a Haitian restaurant that I frequented every week! So excited to try these delicious recipes myself. My parents even commented that they missed the annual pot of Squash soup I would get every new year.

this recipe is identical to how I make mine.. o lay difference I don't puree my squash I just cut then into thick slices. when they're cooked I take them out and mash with a fork and add back to sauce.! great recipe

I made Soup Joumou last night and just finished my 2nd bowl of the day. Mine has beef turnip carrots potatoes cabbage and linguine. It was real thick! I had no room to add water lol I was surprised to see celery and banane added! I add my spaghetti last after the potatoes and turnip softens.

I love all of your recipes. When my family comes over to visit, I make your recipes and my family thinks I'm a great Haitian cook! I have a question about this recipe though...after you boil the meat, do you take out the tomatoes, pepper and thyme/parsley bundle before adding the tomato paste? I can't really tell from the video. blkazn77 follow everything she did accept the adding the meat, and if you use vegetarian meat substitute add it much later as they tend to lose their flavor if use too early.
