The video is a representation that she got that young, funny and exciting love with the guy on the beach, doing all the goofy stuff and drinking and having a good time But the reality is the at the end of the day (night) she stays with the older and more serious guy, that makes her feel powerful and glamorous and she sees as a man that she can look up and admire So she have what she needs, the fun and rollercoaster, the rush and passion and the stability, money, power and glory that the older dude can offer to her. Idk if you noticed, but the younger guy during the beach scenes is the same dude from the “Born to Die” and “Blue Jeans” videos. Lana liked using him to play her boyfriends in these videos because she said she reminded him of one of her actual boyfriends. The older guy during the night car scenes also shows up in the “Shades of Cool” video, which you’ll see soon. Yes, Lana is into older men lol. Sugar daddy stuff. 👀

ultraviolence originally was going to be named melancholia. it was supposed to be a calm, jazz like album but i'm guessing she decided to discard that album and experiment with an alternative rock genre instead. this music video is inspired by the chet baker film, "lets get lost". if you watch the documentary you can see very similar scenes between the two

If you think about it, this is the same guy from Born to die and Blue Jean (though they come from different albums). To me, she died in BTD, in Blue Jeans she talks about how toxic was the relationship and in West Coast she is haunting that guy when he is old.
