Values and principles. It’s crazy how each one of her videos just reflects precise convictions I’ve held dear for years. But they are reminders, much needed one. I never betrayed my values, no matter the social cost. It did cost my entire relationship with my genuinely “in love” girlfriend at the time. I stuck to my values, I refused to entertain an unreasonable ultimatum, and she couldn’t believe that I was for once stepping up my own autonomy even if it meant for us to end. She wanted me to cut off a friend I didn’t particularly need nor care too much for in my life , but was still close enough to protest. She was much more important to me we both knew, but if I accepted her ultimatum then I’ve accepted the precedent. I would’ve not been the somewhat happier person I am now. In the end, turned out she was a severe covert narcissist, and had hidden her problems so well for years. Her ultimatum didn’t work but the fact that I denied her that control ultimately broke what she thought was a good stranglehold on me. And it was, but then she asked me to turn against my values. The friend she didn’t like, I cut him off not too long after i denied her options, because he actually did something to insult me and it was very serious. I tried to convey that back to her It was my values and principles I chose over you, not him. YOU are part of those values and principles too. But you have to respect that you’re not part of deciding them for me. Heartbreak was, as expectedly shit. But I got over it in the technically worst year of my living life, and I’m happier. And two toxic people are now out of my life. All because i kept to one simple concept: VALUES

I always thought I need to be "more this and that" to fit in in an entirely new society. I used to be hypersensitive to what people thought, I took everything people said about me to be true, until I realized some people have bad judgement or, like you noted, bad character. It doesn't have weight to me anymore because I know their perception isn't clear compared to someone with self-awareness and emotional intelligence, and they are probably so stuck in their inner wounds that it's unlikely to be about me anyway. Meanwhile, if someone is fairly reasonable, understanding, and cares about me, that gives it more weight. I absolutely acknowledge whether what anyone says is true or not but never in the sense of trying to please anyone, I do it in order to be my best self.

That’s so true, I recently realized that the reason why I’m so afraid that people will judge me is because I am a really judgemental person, even though I never express my opinion to anyone. I wish someday I can become confident enough to be as unbothered as you, the fear of not being liked or being judge has stopped me from doing so many things and meeting so many people, my insecurities have reached a point when I don’t ever express my true feelings to my loved ones about something that’s bothering me because I am afraid they are gonna think I’m being rude and leave, so I'm always feeling anxious and self conscious. It took a long while to understand that it is impossible to do that without sacrificing my boundaries and I was really late to understand the negative impact it had in my life; how much the validation of other people affected my decision making. Now I try my best to show my boundaries to people in my life, no matter what... I do care about what people say, but now I try to filter them and check if there is something in it. And I think that practice helped me to be myself and what I should follow in life...

The funny thing is that this fear of judgement is often not even “what others think”, but “what I think others think”. When I was younger and training for the 100-metre dash, my coach gave me a feedback. He said that, “You need to focus your lane and the goal, stop peeking other lanes to see how others are doing” This not exactly the same as “caring for what others think”, but I think the advice still applies here, which is about focusing on being your true self and achieve your goals, while not getting distracted by others.

thank you for this. i've been self sabotaging for a long time after becoming a people pleaser at a very young age as a method to escape my extremely abusive household. now in my 20's and in a successful career but my mental state and caring about what the world thinks of me is ruining my life. this really helped put everything into perspective and re-ground myself. thank you

I’m going to be honest. I’ve lost all hope for my life. I’ve come to the end of it all in this psychological torment. I’m tired.. tired of living in eternal torment. This is not a mindset for me that can be tweaked or altered. It’s a condition and it lives with me wherever I go. Like I’m being haunted. Honestly I’ve tried everything to better myself health wise and mentally but it only tightens it’s grip around me harder and harder every day. I can’t live like this anymore. The eyes peering through my soul can’t be deflected. All I feel is shame when I’m pierced by the eyes all around me closing in on me. People will never get to know me because I’m hidden somewhere inside of my psyche. Hidden because of the fear that has taken its foothold over me. All I am is a shadow of a person. In many ways I’m already dead because I don’t know how to live.

I'm not in that space right now but I have been many times for the past 6 years. All I can say is, sometimes we have to live and do enriching things even if we dont know what we're doing, even if we feel like it is pointless or all we can feel is pain and despair. Like, there's points where you reach the bottom and all you can really do is try to crawl from the 2nd to last floor, and then the 3rd, until you reach a level where maybe you're not happy like we want to be, but life is bearable to some extent and you have some things in this world you are invested/attached to (it can be people, goals, or simply life values that you want to carry out in your time on this earth). Ig you dont try to at least crawl or limp yo a higher level (mentally/physically/spiritually), then things truly will not get better, and we dont want that for ourselves. We want to find reasons to live and not feel pain. You want to live and not feel pain. Even if you're not sure about how much hope there is for you, you have to hold on to your desire to move on from this pit and find a more stable, more bearable life. Are there specific areas that cause you the most anguish? If so, you can start working from there. If it is self esteem, you can go to therapy, or do self care/goal-achieving things that make you the type of person YOU want to be. Sorry for the length of the message, but multiple internet strangers care for you, and I hope one day you care for yourself more, as well

these things distroyed my life in the past : caring what others people say and think and even how they see me and what they expect about me but after long healing i become a better person with bigg self awareness and high self esteem and confidence and huge self love i wish every one stop caring and start focusing just how to improve yourself every single day cuz so much care will distruct you and kill your soul. you are worthy of life and to be just as you

I hate that I have this problem. Recently, I've been avoiding checking to see who watched my insta story. That way I can just post without wondering if what I posted "looks dumb." I hope to better myself so I can feel free and not care what people think. Thanks for sharing this video 💜💜

honestly i do not care what other people think of me, but I care wayyyyyyy too much about my parents' comments. One little comment, even a glance and a snicker can impact me so much and I take it way to seriously...

Yes. We can see what others think but shouldn't let that affect who we are ❤️. Great video 👌

I don’t care..People judge based on very superficial things like your looks,your income,your job,what you wear, how many likes you have blah blah. That’s stupid and boring and I have no interest in people that shallow…so,it’s very hard to care about their opinions and take them seriously. I care about what my loved ones think 🌹

Funny how I dont care what other people think of me, yet when they compliment me I treasure what they said.

As a overthinking person, I hate to think about what others think about me. That's really make me feel uncomfortable to continue talking with others, but after I learn about why I should don't care about what others think, I start to love myself and accept all what others think about myself, because it doesn't matter, the matter is know your 'value and don't judge.

I love the concept of -- it makes sense they don't like me if they are the kind of person who comes online to hurt others, because I'm nothing like that. I have thought a lot about this concept before but never from that angle. That really helped me. Today I released a video that was really vulnerable and I was immediately full of anxieties about being so open. But this video has helped me see that I have control over those emotions. Perspective is everything. Thanks for the much needed message today Lana.

Thank you so much for this video. I'm still young and this past year i developed a lot of self knowledge, i know much more about myself, who i wanna be and what life i wanna live. But, i still struggle very much about what others think. You inspire me very much to be more myself!!Thank you for your videos.

"The less that I judge others, the less I judge myself" that's actually very true because if you have preconceived social theories about the people around you, you will use those theories to judge yourself.

My parents basically taught me that not caring would be my downfall. Yea...
@naveena58314 жыл бұрын
Yes. It is ALWAYS about what other people think of you. My parents always tell me things like: „don’t do this...don’t do that...the people are gonna think you’re....“. And i realized how insecure this made me over the years. I always think about what other people think even for the smallest things. I have zero confidence and just wanna be at home. And my parents have the audacity to ask me why i don’t have the confidence to do sth in front of other people.
@nalamthembu51514 жыл бұрын
Why is it so hard to talk to them about this? It's quite ridiculous and so unnecessary in my opinion, almost in a cruel and unusual manner.
@naveena58314 жыл бұрын
I think they will never understand how it feels to be under this constant pressure. If i have children one day i will do anything so they don’t have to feel what i feel now
@nalamthembu51514 жыл бұрын
Tbh I'd much rather be six feet under than give them the gift of grand children. I will repay my parents with material goods instead of love, just as they did me.

I recognized myself when you said that when you were young people told you that you're boring What they did wasn't among my values, so I seemed boring at their eyes too I never wanted to do something out of my personal values whatever other would be thinking However, it's still difficult to don't care about what people will think about you or something that you love And hate is everywhere on the internet now, so it's pretty hard to pass through without being hurt But I'm working on it, I'm starting to just enjoy things by myself and that's it

I appreciate how this video wasn't "other people don't matter, do whatever the heck you want" like a lot of videos about this I've seen. You still should respect other people. If you're blasting loud music in a starbucks and the employees ask you to stop, you should 100% care about what they think. There's a balance, you should also be open to other peoples criticism and advice.
