When I moved to Lancaster in 1990 it was very inexpensive to buy or rent a house but since then prices have caught up just like everywhere else in the United States when the housing prices fell it was very hard to sell our house but we were lucky to sell it for what we paid for it

What gets me down a little about this place is even though it’s a growing economy. The landlords that are acquiring the rentals are big corporations making llcs everywhere. And the jobs do not pay well . My wife and i both work and make around 70k taxes are high here. Although it is great seeing diversity. Puertorricams, Indians, dominicans, even greeks. But its the same as many places I think. However many people do not accept you me being a Puerto Rican born and raised in PR . We get that a whole lot here .

Here's why I left Pennsylvania......cost of living. We moved to Moldova in Eastern Europe and lived in the capital, Chisinau: 14 Months Average Monthly Expenses For Two People, (January 2020 - March 2021)…..A one bedroom, one bathroom, air conditioned, furnished apartment in center city….. • Rent: $338.00 • Apartment Expenses - Water / Sewer / Gas / Apartment Fees / Alarm: $53.27 • Electric: $26.04 • Cell Phone Minutes / Internet / Cable: $12.70 • Groceries (Food): $229.19 • Groceries (Non Food): $43.55 • Transportation: $3.16 • Medical / Rx: $119.12 I opted to buy the national health insurance as a back-up for anything big. That cost was $116.96 for the entire year. Neither of us used the national health plans. We paid for our health care out-of-pocket.

We currently rent a 2-bedroom apartment in Landisville for $925 a month. It's a larger apartment, so it's a good price. Previously, though, we rented a 3-bedroom apartment in Willow Street for $750. It really depends on where you're looking. Also echo Josh's comment about factoring in property taxes to your overall housing payment if you're planning to buy. Very important!

I do have to say though living in Lancaster City and being in Lancaster County for 20 years when I lived there was an awesome experience the Amish areas the country is very beautiful I have to say that jobs are not that good here unless you have a skilled trade or opening up a business many of the temporary job services offer you a low wage and only offer you part-time work because there is a not a lot of jobs that pay good money to equal the housing costs when my loan close to buy my home I was paying four school taxes because I lived in the school of vicinity so you going to be paying a lot of taxes living in Lancaster they get you for everything

@LancasterLiving

Hey Nizia! It really is beautiful here! My advice is to save as much as you can. The market here is red hot and if it stays that way into March, the best situation to be in is having some money to be able to afford a bigger down payment. Bigger down payments are more attractive to sellers!

The answer varies greatly by location, lot size, how much prep work has already been done to the lot, etc. Assuming a half acre - I've seen lots for as little as $20,000 and as much as $200,000, so the answer really depends! We are planning to move in late next year 2022, is it too early to shop for a house in Lancaster area?
@LancasterLiving
@LancasterLiving 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Erlinda! It depends. If it’s new construction, not at all bad to start now. If it’s an existing home, it’s a bit early as the typical real estate transaction here takes approximately 30-60 days to close once going under contract. Happy to chat more about this! Send me an email to matt@mattmoorehomes.com 🙂

Welcome to the area! Yes, Lancaster is a great place for that age group - during normal times (away from COVID). Lots of entertainment, shopping, bars, restaurants, etc to choose from. Obviously COVID has had an effect on that but when it passes, Lancaster (like everywhere else) will come back to life! :)

Im a VET looking to move there in summer 2021, what's the property tax in littitz?
@LancasterLiving
@LancasterLiving 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Lay! It depends...in our case here, you multiply the millage rate of any given area by the assessed value. You'll do this for county, municipal, and school taxes. Then you'll add them all up and that's your yearly tax rate. In the Lititz area, assuming a $250k house, typical taxes run between $3,500 to about $5,000 or so. Hope that helps! If you'd like to discuss further, give me a call! 717-585-4522

My wife just accepted a job in Ephrata. We’ll be moving from Indiana County. I have to say some of the property taxes are scary. I’m not sure where I’ll be working yet so we may rent at first. Our problem is finding a 3 bedroom place that allows a cat and a 60 lb dog.

Congrats to her! Yes, there are some pockets of Lanc Co that have higher taxes than others, but overall it’s lower than most of the surrounding counties (especially compared to areas east of here). For rentals, I’d look at the Zillow rentals section (avoid Craigslist if you can!) as the number of private party rentals is fairly robust. If you need some help, let me know!
