After the match, Lance 'Buddy' Franklin declared the mojo was back.
"The confidence was up today - it was good to actually convert," Lance 'Buddy' Franklin said.
"The last couple of weeks have been disappointing for myself, and for the footy club, to not be kicking the goals.
"Today, it came off."
Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson tried to play down Lance 'Buddy' Franklin's numbers but opposite number Brad Scott had no doubt he had witnessed something special, as well as painful.
"It was one of the best individual displays I've seen in my time in footy," Scott said.
"We haven't seen a goalkicking effort like that since the glory days of the full forwards, the Dunstalls, Abletts, Locketts."
Lance 'Buddy' Franklin had six goals by the long break, his first four coming in succession - and turning the match on its head.
His aggressive afternoon out came complete with several push-and-shove moments with Kangaroos niggler Scott Thompson, who at least managed to get under the skin of the champion.
Lance 'Buddy' Franklin booted the last goal of the first quarter - the third in the nine-goal blitz - and then the first three of the second, including a spectacular three-kick effort from a Hawks defensive kick-in.

However, Clarkson was more pleased with a team effort that has the Hawks well and truly into the groove they'd only found spasmodically this season.
"It's not about Lance 'Buddy' Franklin - it's about our team," Clarkson said.
"Bud got on the end of the ball today which was terrific but we were able to break the Kangaroos side open because we just had workrate right across the ground."
