Apparently Daniel's pace was up there with the top 3 until he got told to hold position behind Yuki. His engineer told him he was lapping around a tenth off Max and he could easily have made the points if the FIA weren't incompetent and didn't punish them for being swept up as collateral damage. Why they weren't allowed to unlap themselves before the restart when the damage wasn't their fault I will never understand.

This race he showed some proper skill I think. The laps where he was trying to overtake Russell whilst also defending Sainz who was right on his gearbox many times, were actually really impressive. The margin for error (and losing position to Sainz) were small and he didn't make a mistake lap after lap. Taking a good look at the footage he took some very remarkeble lines through some corners to get a better exit, and it worked. He does have to work hard on his starts though, because that cost him valuable track position.

I'd love to see him in a championship contending position, but to be honest, currently I see Carlos as the possible champion at Ferrari, not Charles. Why? Because in my opinion Carlos has shown he has the consistency and "seriousness" a true champion needs. His racecraft has improved significantly over the years while I feel Charles hasn't gotten much better in the past 2 years. I do like Charles, but to be a world champion I feel like he needs to step up his game at the moment, to be prepared for when Ferrari give him a championship contending car. All in all he's rapid, especially his qualifying pace is impressive. But there's obvious room for improvement

It seems he just doesn't know how to drive a lot of tracks properly. On some tracks he's comfortable with, and he's got a decent car he's quick enough. It was a good showing today and a couple races ago. They have the car back to where it was earlier in the season, so maybe it's just a confidence thing. As always, consistency is Stroll's biggest weakness really. We'll see in 2 weeks.
@LouisSubearth

He's had a good streak recently. He got P11 in Qatar due to track limits as he fought to not crash while passing out, otherwise he would have P9, crossed P9 in Austin from P20 and a pit lane start, got cheated out of a race finish after Bottas hit his car in Mexico and now P5 while blocking Sainz from passing basically the whole race.

It seems like he is getting that internal flame back. He's performed well for a few races now and his confidence is going up clearly. I think he really showed some skill this race by trying to overtake Russell whilst also defending Sainz. The three were withing 1.5 seconds most of the time and Stroll didn't make a single mistake. The lines he took to increase exit speed were also very remarkable. I hope he has more great races like this in the future. Had he not had such bad starts and lost valuable track position he could've gotten P4, maybe P3 with the help of Alonso as a defender I think.

Both made their careers riding the coattails of the people they surrounded themselves with; both take credit for the team efforts of those people; and both are unaware of how poisonous they are in their roles. I really hope a good seat opens up between now and 2025; and that whichever team it's with gives Mick a shot. He's way too talented to just be a reserve driver. At least Toto has confidence in him; and Alpine seems to believe that he's good enough to offer him a seat in their hypercard. If he does well there, it should raise his stock with other teams. Unfortunately, too many teams rely too heavily on their driver development programs; and instead of relying on good scouting, they take the best person from their own pool of young drivers. I’m expecting Marko to sign Stroll to $100000 billion drive for life contract, all guaranteed, based on this performance cause this is the real stroll not the other 100 race failures

Perez's seat depends on Helmut's choices, Stroll's depend on the new Saudi investors the team was supposedly sold to.

Is it just me or has Lance actually been a bit better in the interviews and is genuinely starting to look like the number 2 he’s supposed to be..?

Sounds like the development of the Aston was making him doubt his ability to drive a F1 car. Imagine having a good car turn to absolute dog excrement and getting told we are keeping it that way. It took Alonso not being able to drive it either for them to admit the upgrades weren't upgrades.

Maybe the disappointment is so strong because my love for interlagos is so big, but up until Nando v Checo it wasa snoozer.

Fair enough, although I did saw Stroll struggling so much the other races. Especially when in the other races, he was beset with reliability issues and crashed out a lot especially in Singapore. Which made it very difficult to have faith in him, considering the number of times he crashed definitely stained his season.

I thought it was a very enjoyable race. Some drama at the start and an amazing end with Perez and Alonso. Enough happening in the middle throughout the race. And finally a P1 for Lando! (leave me be, I don't count Verstappen anymore 😉)
