The drivers of the GROUP B will always be the best drivers of all times...and Lancia Delta will remain the best of the rally cars...

Purtroppo la tragedia della vita, sempre in agguato, si è portato via il più grande di quei tempi, Henri Toivonen; il mezzo meccanico ha conosciuto il limite nel genio umano del pilota che l'ha portata al suo limite. Il pilota, insieme al copilota Sergio Cresto, erano troppo grandi e la meccanica ha semplicemente ceduto, portandoli oltre, fino a trasformarli in leggenda.

These are museum cars worth millions. Audi Quattros or even 037’s, you easy make replicas. Not the S4 so much...

Man forget Colin Mccrae, Henri Toivonen was the fucking man for trying to conquer one of these beasts. He died doing it, but he was probably the only one who could do it.

lancia won 6 world champion ships with that car, the 037 and the integrale along with other titles in other categories, not thx to Toivonen for sure, Toivonen was a great driver but he became famous for his death in that car, true he was competing for world title in that year but at what cost?? there are better drivers, and still alive ;)

Massimo Max What you say is true, but Toivonen got known for his death trying to conquer one of the most insane machines ever built. The way I see it, there were better drivers but very few that probably wanted to even try a S4 because they knew better.

Massimo Max I've seen a documentary where many of the very big names in Rallying - team bosses, drivers, engineers who were in the business during the era and had first hand knowledge of the drivers at the time, said Henri Toivonen was probably the most talented, fastest driver there has been. He was praised for his speed not only on gravel, but on tarmac too and he was a very fast racing driver too. That he died in that accident is a consequence of so many things, most of which not many will ever know. For one: he was having high fever during the accident. He should not have driven, but more importantly he should not have been allowed to drive because he himself was a guy who wanted to drive and win, and the team should have taken the lead and stop him from driving. You try to tame a beast like an S4 in high fever.. good luck. He could have crashed somewhere else and lived but he didn't. Lancia could have kept the car at least as it originally was, but parts had been taken out to make it more light, parts that should have been there for proper protection and functioning of the car. The team was all about winning at all costs and many actions were taken that - done differently might have changed the fate of Toivonen. Henri's skill had little to do with the accident.

Massimo Max Also, in 1986 a few weeks before that year's F1 GP at Estoril, Portugal, Lancia was testing and Henri Toivonen drove the S4 on the full F1 circuit. His lap time on the rally car would have earned him the 6th place in the same year's F1 qualifying in which Ayrton Senna was on pole position. F1 cars at the time had 1000bhp (against the s4's 600) and they were obviously dedicated race cars, which the S4 was not. Even if the s4's boost had been turned up, it would still not have increased the power from 600bhp to the level of F1 car's 1000bhp. So you have this guy driving a less powerful car on the type of event that it was not designed for and yet he would have beaten most of the more powerful F1 cars driven by guys whose job was to race on racing track. He was not just a driver who was made famous by his death. He was going to be a superstar but at the end things went differently.

Jlclassics could be, who knows.. a good driver doesnt try to be 2 seconds faster, and in doing that he looses 15 because he hit's a wall or a tree.. good driver doesnt arrive on almost EVREY rally with amissing part of the car, that's my point, as i said, he was good, over the normal but still imo there where better drivers then him arround.. the S4 is perfection on wheels for those years, no doubt on that, the f1 cars where not much of a difference on certain circuits with no long straight lines, in add the f1 are rear wheel drived, the s4 4x4, useless to have 1000 hp and can use only 600, then better a 600hp car able to use them full, and besides all that technical talking, Toivonen did indeed do test drives in estoril, but it wasnt on the same S4 they where using, it was the new ECV, a much more powerfull and advanced car based on S4 that was ment to race in the new Group S rally starting in 1987. Some rumors are arround that this particular car was even done to go in touring car championships but it's just a rumor (You can do your own researches if you intrested just google "LANCIA ECV PROJECT"). Group S then never started after Henry's death and also Group B was cancelled along with the S4 and ECV project but we all know that part.. the lap time is a metropolitan legend, even Cesare Fiorio, Lancia manager of those years still says he personally have no knowledge about Henry doing that lap times.. there are no recordings of that so it can be true or not, but if even team manager says he doesnt know anything about that then i might think it's just a legend, nothing more ^^ that's just a point of view.. ah and the main reason of my post was reffered to "it's Lancia that made Toivonen, not Toivonen that made Lancia" :)

Sound is good, very original, especially the "meow" on engine retention, it has a lot of personality, it reminds me Jeep Willis of American army. Aesthetically the same cannot be said, it is certainly not the car's strong point, to be indulgent, I like another one better that did look externally similar to street cars, by the way, it won this rally and WRC 85 and 86.

This is the greatest car ever made. Fuck Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Porsche, Aston, Lotus, (fuck me I almost said Alfa Romeo), Jaguar, McLaren, Koeniggseggegggeggggg, and everyone else. Groub B spec Lancia that does zero to sixty on gravel in 2 seconds flat. Let's see Tesla or Rimac do that.
