Toyota has recently updated its Landcruiser 79 series with the introduction of the 4 cylinder 2.8 GD6 engine. In this video I give a detailed overview on the differences between the new 4 cylinder vs the much loved 4.5l v8.
Kindly do note that I do not own the last clip in this video.

If I were to spend the money for a good truck I'd definitely go for the 8 pistons. Feels good thought

The single cab can take 180 liters. Which implies 1800 km before a refuel

The single cab has 2 90l tanks which is equivalent to 180l....not 130l

Interesting. Here in Australia the single cab only has a single 130 litre fuel tank now.

In Brazil, Toyota still build the FJ45, double cab, called Bandeirante. Toyota uses the OM314 engine, an engine that is known for endurance, from Mercedes-Benz. Know the old 508D truck, or older Unimog? Well, that would explain the reliability perhaps.

I wasn’t aware of this, thank you for sharing. Very helpful to know that reliability comes with years of experience.

Torque is good on 2.8, am not a fan of auto transmission. I like the front indicators. 4.5 struggles with power to weight ratio
@maxlodewyk_na

Yes, the 4.5 cannot tow as comfortably as the 2.8. With the manual transmission you have more control off-road, I agree. Which would you go for between the two?

The 2.8 is Tuned to the tits whereas the 4.5L has more room fro growth if you want to get it upgraded.

@maxlodewyk_na I did and never understood the hype until now. The 4.5 V8 is an upgrade from the 2.8, but shu, the 2.8GD6 remains such a beauty.

Forget the 4.5. With todays economy why put yourself in a situation of shelling out more for feul just for vanity sake. Performance - you would STILL have to spend more on your V8 to enhense it's engin performance. Just way too costly and as it gets older your still paying too much for feul. I guess some people can't see the light at the end of the tunnel.
