This video shows step by step how to set your base ignitiion timing on your 1FZFE engine, usually found in the 1994-1997 Toyota Land Cruiser and the Lexus LX450 in North America. In other countries this same engine was used on other vehicle models as well and in other years.

For a carborated motor it should be the same procedure to measure timing with a timing light. But I don't think you will need to set the jumper for base timing.

I used to set mine to 10 as well. But honestly now a days I prefer to keep things close to stick so I set any 1FZ motor I have had lately to factory setting.

@@NKPGarage can i ask why you changed - i am only getting 300 kms to a tank of premium petrol which is pretty ordinary and expensive in Australia

@airselectricalcontractors842 stock timing setting is safer and less risk of detonation or engine damage. And I did not notice much improvement in power or fuel economy.

When you connect the jump to e1 and te1, do you get a blinking check engine light? How do I know if the connection is good?

On the 1995 or older pre-obdii vehicles the check engine light flashes so that you can read error codes that way when jumping te1 and e1. The best way to tell if it's a good connection is to use your timing light to look at the timing mark before jumpering te1 and e1. pay attention to where the mark is. Then jumper them and check again. You should notice that the timing mark is more stable and not moving around much, and tends to stay near the same spot.

Have you ever adjust the TPS sensor on this FJ80? I’m runing 950 rpm’s at all times after clearing throttle body and need to adjust the idle back to 650 rpm’s just don’t know how involved is it

If I was keeping it for myself I would probably set it to 8 or 10 and use 89 octane instead of 87. But since it was going to a new owner I wanted everything to stay as stock as possible

@ITS-FALCO should be okay. But the higher you set the timing the more chance there is for detonation. 7 is generally safe as long as the engine is in good health
