Just a note from my experience 3 weeks back. Wire wheel the hell out of it before starting pressing. I personally didn’t need so much heat and I applied it sparingly whilst trying to press so as not to get too hot. Also don’t make my mistake, take the boot off before pressing in the top joint, I cut the boot by accident and had to get new boots. Thanks for all your videos, helped me loads.

Thanks for the heads up. This was our 1st try at ball joints so I'll keep your tips in mind

Thanks for all your videos. Dude, this was the biggest PITA maintenance I’ve ever done on my ‘01 Disco 2 V8. Even rebuilding my Thor engine was easier than R2 the damn ball joints. I wish someone made ball joints with zerk/grease fittings or ball joint deletes like for Jeeps. Cheers from a Yank in Suffolk! 🇺🇸🏴

No worries. Not a fan of this job either. Thanks for watching!

Good work guys, for anyone else this job can be really difficult the heat does help a lot along with a wire brushing the area. I'd advise plenty of oil on the clamp thread to stop it from stripping, and the joints should go back in easy if there's any resistant they are at the wrong angle or hitting part of the clamp setup hope that helps.

Had my ball joints done on Big Lollopy at the garage. When it came back I noticed they had spot welded the joints to the hub carrier. The ball joints can only be replaced 3 times. After that, a new axle casing is required. My joints must have been too sloppy!

My guess would be they used too much heat when removing them. I was given the heads up before doing mine to go easy with the heat. Clean as can be and rust free before starting is more important.

@@jonathancooke542 Could be. I have no idea how many times they had been changed before though. It is a job to avoid though!

@@sleepycatpictures1176 I quite enjoyed the process, not sure what that says about me 🤔. In theory once changed the fitter should dot punch the axle. Check around the joints area for punch marks on the casting.

@@jonathancooke542 Mm, too late now. Lollopy was scrapped 3 years ago, but I know what you mean.
