Great video guys. I have found the easiest way to remove the pad retain springs is to get a broad bladed screw driver under the bottom off it (curved bit), and the lever it out out towards you so you are essentially pivoting the spring out around the pin by moving it at 90+ degrees to the face of the shoe. This action naturally compresses the spring and walks it off of the mushroom head of the pin. Replacing it is the is the opposite, offer it up at almost 90 degrees so you get the outer edge of the spring under the mushroom head and the pivot it downwards and push up at the same time. You can pretty much use your fingers and then just some pliers after ensure its fully slid home. Hope that makes sense.

I have just done this to mine because of the dreaded hand brake squeal, what a job and a half I must admit the air was blue but did get it back OK and is now working perfect, just one thing when you adjust the hand brake setting you unwind the adjuster 8 clicks. Great video.

Really good video, good idea doing a kit that includes brand new bolts,seals ,springs,dust caps etc as you could put on new discs and one of these old components could fail and it means a complete stripdown again for the sake of a few pounds extra.

Hi Guys, I think you have missed some very important points, You need to put the hand brake into service mode on a RRS, also there is an adjuster, an allen key bolt, that allows some adjustment to the top silver bracing bar. There is a great resource on the D3 forum called Bodsy's brake bible that explains the full adjustment. what you have done will work for a few months but because you haven't done all adjustment points, it will probably cause EPB jam I the future, I learnt this from bitter experience.

Good advice but be aware there is adjustment in the electronic module if this is near it’s end and the cable to drum has any slack it will run out of adjustment and possibly lock the brakes on in a position where you can’t rotate the disc to take pressure off the cables resulting in cutting the cables and on a bad day new handbrake control module = 600 qwid and a lot of time to sort out

@@AndyK.1 i dont think so, if it was an electric handbrake, why was there a cable operating the shoes?.....my understanding is the epb incorporates a motor driving a piston on the caliper

Matthew Stevens The motor is in the middle of the car. Under the car. Forward of the spare wheel. All disco3 and disco4 have epb

Hi Loved the Video , gave me the confidence to change my front pads and discs, very straight forward . However the pedal is now spongy. Just wondering if you had same issue ? If so how did you rectify it? Thanks
@L6632 жыл бұрын
Hi Ian - spongy brakes normally means there is some air in the system - did you let any air into the system / disconnect the hydraulics anywhere ? Normally you need to give the pedal a push a few times to push the pistons out back against the discs but this normally improves quite quickly.
@zzzeds2 жыл бұрын

Hello, anyone knows how to reset the brake wear light in the dash...
@L6634 жыл бұрын
Hi - this is not like a ervice light that you can reset it is one of the brake wear sensor is touching the disk or faulty. There is one wear sensor on the front and one on the rear - both on the LHS from memory - you need to check these and check your pad wear.
