I changed my front air struts on my Land Rover Discovery 3 for under $500. You will be amazed at how easy it is to change your air suspension on a Land Rover LR3. The cost of changing the shocks are a major reason that keeps people from buying a Land Rover. After watching this video on how to install struts that fear will be erased.

Oxmanagain, this video saved me tons of time with two points: 1. Accessing the inboard mounting nut from the engine bay 2. Unclipping the hose from under the wheel liner to gain more length None of the other vids that explain this procedure cover this. Many thanks!

Great video. I also own a Land Rover but after years of constant leaks with the air system, I popped the rear hatch, removed the compressor and all the valve blocks and converted my air suspension system over to coils springs and been loving it ever since. I just used your instructions to replace the air struts on my 2007 Range Rover Sport and they worked perfectly! One thing that I did differently was NOT bleed the air out of the system. Instead I disconnected the battery and when I disconnected the air hose, the remaining air bled itself out of the system. Thank you so much.

Thanks for producing one of the most detailed KZbin videos on replacing the LR3 front air strut. But a couple of points I think I might have missed or were not covered, (1) the battery or air compressor fuse should be disconnected first, (2) torque settings for the top and bottom bolts. I think it's 42 ft/lbs for the top and 184 ft/lb for the bottom.

Thanks for the videos, you definitely scored a bunch of likes.

Great video. Couple things to mention. The nuts on top can be very difficult to remove. Harbor freight sells low profile sockets that you can put a wrench on also. This makes the job so much easier. And great advice for removing the heat shield to get that rear bolt. Also keep in mind you cut off old air connector to fit new. Almost impossible to get enough line unless you unclip behind the wheel liner

Once again, fantastic video. I really learn alot about my LR Discovery 3 from watching your videos. I thought i had to spend alot of money in repairshops when i bought the car, but you have shown me that i can do alot of the work myself. Keep up the good work m8 and the wonderful videos. Brustad88

you are welcome, would like to ask you please, Mine is LR3 model 2009 v8 hse, I can hear air leakage sound from the left front area, of course, form the air strut, so I could understand the only reason is that part and no way compressor or anything else, right? mine is 150 km and never replace any of that strut , so I can do the same procedures as you did and I can find also same air distributor as the passenger side? please advise
@oxmanagain
@oxmanagain 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, if you can hear air coming from the strut then you need new ones installed. As I live in the United States my steering wheel is on the left side so the air distributor/ block valve was on the right side. I'm just saying that because if you don't see the block valve, then just look on the other side. If you have any more question feel free to ask.Thanks again.

Finally got around to doing mine. Folks, take off the wheel well cover and detach the air supply hose even on the driver side! I didn't see how he did the driver side so I didn't bother to do this. What PITA until I decided to partially remove the cover enough to bend it to access that supply hose and clip. Then I could drop that line down about 6-7 inches to tighten the nut.

Can you make a video on how to remove and install new struts on the rear side?

Great video and thanks for sharing. I do have a few questions: 1. How are your air struts holding up thus far since you replaced them nearly four years ago now? 2. Which brand did you go with, using the link to Amazon you provided there are multiple options on that page? 3. In the Atlantic British video they left the new air line hardware in place and just pushed the air line into the new fitting, is either way a plausible action? Do you have to place the hardware on and then place it into the strut? Thanks for you time.

They've held up pretty well. I don't think I have to change him again and like you said it has been 4 years.

@@diverserootz @Diverse Rootz I bought them from amazon. Arnott is a quality strut from everything that I've seen but I just bought the ones that were compatible with the LR. I left a link in the description. I don't know what brand but it's been 3 years and they're still holding up.

I just did my rear air struts. With the Atlantic British part, you don't have to reassemble the olive onto the air line. It really is just push to fit.

Amazing, I've done it before and it's a pig of a job if you don't know the trick of removing the heatshields and accessing the third nut from inside the engine bay! Really wish I'd seen this video before I replaced mine.

Very well explained. Highly organized. These LRs are fun, as long as you can avoid a visit to dealer. My wife had one of the earlier versions, a Disco SE7 and some of our best off roading memories comes from that period. Enjoy it. Thanks dearly for sharing these. Thumbs upped and I was a Subscriber from before.
